Slyder Hands-On
We sat down with Sandlot Games and Mobliss for some hands-on time with Slyder.
San Francisco--If you've played Reaxion's Ice Maze, you're already familiar with Slyder's core gameplay. Slyder's a cheerful, spherical dude living in a very slippery world. He's a results-oriented guy who cares for nothing more than finding the level exit. Unfortunately, there are often many obstacles that come between our roly-poly friend and sweet escape. Slyder is shaping up to be a fun--if conventional--puzzle game.
Slyder introduces new perils very gradually, ratcheting up the difficulty over the course of more than 160 stages. Whenever you encounter a new enemy, five or six levels will be dedicated to teaching you to evade it. This means that players will rarely be frustrated by an unprecedented challenge. Advancement occurs at a fairly constant rate.
Level sizes actually vary quite a bit. Some can be completed in a few careful moves, while others require a more sustained effort. The number of moves you take to complete a level is recorded, and one game mode revolves specifically around decreasing that number, thereby "meeting par."
We're very pleased with our experience with Slyder. It seems like the simple sort of game that fares very well on a mobile platform. If you're a fan of sokoban-style games, Slyder should be an easy transition. Stay tuned to GameSpot for our full review.
