If you want to play the game of Crazy Eights on your mobile phone, then Crazy Eights for mobile is not only the obvious choice, but also probably the best one. There may not be any variety to this game, nor much reward beyond high-score comparison, but it delivers exactly as advertised, with the good old-fashioned card game of Crazy Eights.
For the uninitiated, Crazy Eights is a card game played with the standard deck of 52 cards. Players, who in this game consist of you and the computer, start with a hand of seven cards, and the objective is to get rid of all of them. One card from the deck is turned faceup, and you can place any card from your hand on the pile that matches either the suit or value. If you can't make a match and it's your turn, you must pick from the deck until you can play. In some unfortunate circumstances, you can end up with half the deck in your hand before you can actually put a card down. The wild cards in the game are the eights (which are incidentally totally crazy), and can be placed onto the pile at any time. The person who plays an eight is then allowed to pick the next suit. Eights can be used to get you out of a jam or tactically to prevent your opponent from playing, especially if you've paid attention to what suits your opponent doesn't seem to have in hand.
The interface in Crazy Eights is quite simple, and a tiny bit silly. A wacky professor type guides turns, and the background is littered with, you guessed it, crazy eights. Even the music, which plays primarily on the title screen, is a little silly, but it all seems to work well with the charm. For a bit of a challenge, you can try your scores against the high-score leaderboard, although you gain points based on the total value of cards left in your opponent's hand, which has a little bit to do with luck. The graphics and the menu screen are equally basic, both in function and appearance. In fact, everything about Crazy Eights is straightforward. If you like the card game and want to play it, then that is good enough reason to pick this game up. But if you're not quite sure, then there isn't enough to this game to necessarily take a big risk.
