I cant claim that Never Ending Tommorrow is a great game for all, I can say that it will be enjoyable for gundam fans.

This game definately has its share of problems. For one the enormous slow down during certain places, especially multiplayer. The only other sizable flaw I see though is that the build your own pilot mode that was in EiS (which sports the same gameplay pretty much) is absent and to me that was the most replayable feature of EiS. (EiS is short for Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space). Basically with the exception of a new melee system, which is arguably inferior to the EiS system, this game is just an EiS game in the SEED Universe without arguably the best game mode and built to where the frame rate drop sometimes eliminates that fast action feel that was in EiS.

Now no the game does not really manage to tell the story that it took 50 episodes of an anime to tell, and cant really be faulted for that either. That is about 17.5 hours of story, when you think about that it does seem rather unreasonable to expect the game to tell it all right? In my oppinion, the games purpose isnt to retell or clarify the storyline of the anime but to let you "experience" the climactic battles of the anime first hand.

Ofcourse everyone probably hasnt played Encounters in Space so here is how the basic system works. You have a long range, a long range multi lock on, a melee, and a melee and ranged special attack. The lock on feature will allow you to basically keep locked on a target as long as it remains on screen which is a good system to have because in theory you should be moving rather fast and often zooming right by your target which would make manual aiming incredibly hard. (You are technically able to shoot without locking on however). You can press and hold the ranged weapon button to bring up a larger box which will lock onto multiple targets and fire at them, the amount of targets you can lock onto depends on both your mobile suit and your pilot. Melee is a little tricky because while it does mean you start with a saber (or another melee weapon) this enters you in Melee Sphere mode where you can either use further melee attacks or you may actually use ranged attacks while in melee sphere. In melee sphere mode you can rack up a combo which will help your score. The melee special is usually a semi long string of saber attacks that does a good bit of damage. The ranged special is generally alot less useful, doing rather low damage. Those firmilliar with the series know what Phase Shift is (also those firmilliar will notice that the suits that should have Trans-Phase have Phase Shift instead). Suits which should have phase shift amor do have it, and suits which shouldnt have a special bar instead. The trick about phase shift is that a special will decrease the phase shift just like it does the special bar, however phase shift can also absorb non beam attacks. Suits with phase shift however have a disadvantage also, it slowly drains away with the exception of the three nuclear powered suits, Freedom, Justice, and Providence. There is also support that you can call in to do various things.

The fighting system is generally pretty well done and except for the occasional slowdown (or the inescapable slowdown in multiplayer) the game gives the feel of high speed gundam combat. There is a large learning curve in learning how to use the melee sphere without accidentally flying out of it because the movement controls change while in that mode, but it eventually gets pretty easy. Likewise learning how to use the multi lock on feature to its best and learning how to keep a target locked on can take some practice. There is a large selection of suits from the SEED series, manga, and MSV; the suits are also fairly well modeled and animated

The single player missions vary in objective but as the gamespot review said they play pretty much the same. However, I would disagree that it is entirely bad that it works out this way as it allows it to maintain the fast gundam combat feel while changing it up just enough to keep it from feeling to repetitive. Only 2 characters have a full story mode, Asuran Zara and Kira Yamato, but in the MSV section you can play as around 20 more characters which all have one different mission, often a mission that never occured in the anime at all but from a manga or as backstory. You can also play survival mode where you can fight up to 100 suits including 3 single bosses and 2 of those 3 plus one new boss all at the same time for suits 98-100.

The game also lacks the ability to replace the bad english voices (such as the high pitched and sqeaky Lacus Clyne) with the original ones forcing you to endure your support character yacking at you in what can be a rather annoying voice.

Overall, the single player is lots of fun. The replay value is rather low though because it lacked the option to create a personally customized pilot like EiS did and it lacks a truly playable multiplayer mode. One could easily squeeze over 10 hours of play time out of the game though, as long as the learning curve doesnt get in the way of the fun. There isnt really any doubt though that this is really a game made for fans of the series.
