After Extensive Play The Flaws Are More Apparent

User Rating: 7.5 | MLB 10: The Show PS3
I initially bought this game after watching a few people play it in Best Buy and couldnt believe how good the graphics looked.

After extensive play, I have to say from a gameplay perspective 2k10 is the better game.

If you are a real baseball fanatic and like playing actual franchise modes and playing a season, this game is top notch. The Road to the Show features are awesome and graphically the game looks fantastic.

But, and theres always a but, from an actual gameplay perspective, on just the normal exhibition and online play modes, the game has issues.

One, theres ****way*** too many foul balls. Games take hours to complete because each batter is getting 10-20 pitches with 5-8 fouls each. I can understand people want realism but part of the reason for play games is to get rid of all the tedious crap and get to the action.

Two, the game almost plays itself. It can be very boring because the hit placement is always in the same spots. Hits are either right to fielders or hit to the perfect spots where you cant actually make plays on the balls. The pitcher and hitting interfaces in non RTTS mode are outdated (same as EA MVP and the old High Heat series) and you dont really feel like you are actually controlling anything. Balls that are hits that shouldnt be extra base hits get turning into doubles and triples because fielders cant play the balls off the bat correctly. The AI never swings at balls. If a baserunner has decent speed its almost impossible to throw them out stealing if you dont pitch out.

The announcers are terrible and generic.

If you actually want to feel like you are playing a game not just managing it, I'd go with 2k10. The game play is faster, pitching has an actually control scheme that requires working the analog sticks to control the pitches, hitting is more accurate and there are actually plays made in the field that require human interaction and twitch skills. While graphically 2k10 is inferior, for sheer gameplay enjoyment its a better game.
