good game, bad controles

User Rating: 5.5 | Missile Command X360
Ah the 80s, the first real golden age of video games, that have produced such classic systems as the Atari 2600 and Colecovision, and such classic games as Pac-Man, Centipedie and of course Missile Command, with some like Pac Man and Missile Command finding their way onto the newer consoles, like the Playstation and the failed Atari Jaguar. However the Xbox LIVE Arcade Verson of Missile Command is a mixed bag.

On the surface the game is actually a fairly intact port of the classic Missile Command Arcade game, that was so popular on the Atari 2600 and in the arcades, you take control of a missile base, and try to shoot down in coming ballistic missles and enemy aircraft. The best feature the game has is the inclusion of two different versons, the classic, which has the look and feel of the old Missile Command Arcade Game, and an Enhanced verson featuring updated graphics and sound. The Enchanced verson's graphics are also a vast improvement over the look of the classic game, and the addition of Xbox LIVE's achievements make playing the game more worth while.

However there is one problem with the game, that will with out adoubt alienate many gamers, and that is the controls. While the 360's tiggers work perfectilly with both the classic and enhanced versons of the game, it's the joystick that ultimatly proves to be the game's achillie's heel. The original Missile Command Arcade game, was designed to work with a track ball, and the 360's joystick makes moving your missile bases increadibly slow, and difficult.

Over all this isn't the worst port of Missile Command, but it could stand from some improvments in it's control set, such as allowing players to use the D-pad instead of the joystick to controle the bases. Dispite it's flaws, the game will still appeal to fans of the orginal classic.
