IGF's Student Showcase is a non-competitive event recognizing the exceptional talents of high school and college student developers. GameSpot is proud to host the following top 10 entries as nominated by an IGF-appointed jury.

The Student Showcase award winners are not eligible for the Audience Award.


Ballistic

School: Spartasoft /Michigan State University (East Lansing, MI, United States)
Ballistic is a 3D action puzzle game. Viewed from a side perspective, the game has you solve physics-based challenges under a set time limit. Sporting tons of Flash, and making use of the Novadex physics software development kit (SDK), Ballistic is a nonstop, fun game that is both easy and intuitive.

Colormental

School: Will Dull / Full Sail Real World Education (Winter Park, FL, United States)
All the color has been drained from Chromopolis, and you, Roy G. Biv, must battle the deadly Huemans to restore the lost colors of your cartoon world. Solve unique puzzles and work your way past deadly platforming traps to get that much closer to chilling in full color again.

Ocular Ink

School: Pistachio Productions / Grinnell University (Grinnell, IA, United States)
In a strange and twisted land where evil, dismembered body parts roam the countryside, you are a young paintbrush-wielding eyeball determined to free your hometown from the fearsome clutches of the evil eye pirate Patches Deadlights.

Narbacular Drop

School: Nuclear Monkey Software / DigiPen Institute of Technology (Redmond, WA, United States)
Narbacular Drop is an environmental puzzle game in a fantasy setting where you must navigate through a dungeon by way of two interconnected portals. The dungeon is filled with a series of traps and puzzles, which can be solved by moving around objects with the help of the portals.

OrBlitz

School: DigiPen Institute of Technology (Redmond, WA, United States)
OrBlitz is a fast-paced puzzle game where players place blocks to direct orbs to their goal. The game starts off in black and white, and color spreads out to the world as the gameplay accelerates to a frantic pace.

Palette

School: Department of Film, TV and Multimedia, SungKyunKwan University (Seoul, South Korea)
Color is the essence of this game, since players will experience the simulation of mixing real paint. This game is not for the brain, but for the eyes.

Sea of Chaos

School: DigiPen Institute of Technology (Redmond, WA, United States)
Sea of Chaos is a story-driven 3D action naval combat game. Defend your homeland against the evil Vandamourians, battle ferocious pirates, and acquire new ships and upgrades to help you achieve your ultimate goal of bringing peace to the seas.

Goliath

School: Media Design School (Auckland, New Zealand)
Goliath is a team-based, vehicle action game. Players can choose from 16 different humans or Road Warriors (artificial intelligence-controlled vehicles) to play as in their effort to defend a world under siege by an enormous, and seemingly indestructible, tank known as the Goliath.

NERO

School: Nero Team / The University of Texas (Austin, TX, United States)
In NERO, you assume the role of a drill sergeant to train a team of robots in real time. You can add level elements, interact with the robots, and specify overall team behaviors. Once you are satisfied with your robot team, go online to battle other player-created teams over the Internet.
