An Asteroids clone worth the playtime, and luckily it comes on the system.

User Rating: 8.3 | MineStorm VECX
In this Asteroids clone, a UFO comes on screen dropping little mine eggs that grow into big mines. Your task is simply to shoot all these mines. When you do, they break into the smaller mines that will move and grow faster. The UFO will return to lay more mines. The mines have only five variations. You've got the big ones that just float along the screen, invisible mines that will return fire, mines that will return fire when destroyed, plain-old homing mines that will follow you, and homing mines that return fire. And just like Asteroids, the mines and your ship will wrap to the other side when moved off screen. In terms of game play, you fly your ship around by aiming your ship with your joystick and using buttons to control the thrust, guns, and teleporting when in a bind. There's not much to it and only four stages. However, the stages only end when you destroy all mines. It is possible to play the levels for quite a long time since the UFO will bring more. The graphics are the simple, clean vectors which the Vectrex is known. The game's sound effects are quite simple in that it's your fired shots and simple jingle reminiscent of the old Space Invaders and Jaws. There's no music at all.

Overall, for a built-in game for the system, this one is certainly fun. Fans of Asteroid clones will have fun with this one. It's different enough to keep interest and the addictive quality gives it a high replay value. Collectors of old game consoles, fear not. This will keep you busy while you hunt down more cassettes.
