I just started playing Minecraft again and I've noticed I can't break some blocks around where I start. Doesn't matter what type it is, sand, tree, leaves, dirt. They disappear for a fraction of a second and then reappear. It seems to be only around where I spawn. Also I can't place any blocks on these unbreakable blocks. When I try to place them they just disappear.
Is this something new to keep us from digging and building around our spawn or did I break something?
Thanks.

had similar issues, try destroying them on another face. you can edit blocks around spawns still.

If you're playing by yourself on a multiplayer server, maybe..
I'll try loading up a single player map and see if I get the same results. So far it's happened on 3 different multiplayer maps I created.

Pretty sure it's the norm for SMP maps right now. I know it was happening to everyone on WAZE's new server around the spawn.

There's an option for multiplayer servers that doesn't allow anyone to change anything within a certain distance from the spawn.
It's so that when new people join the server, they won't be trapped in some random building by other players.

Have to be set as an operator in order to modify the spawn area.
