Here's a fresh look at Project Natal at the Tokyo Game Show 2009. We meet with Kudo Tsunoda to give us the scoop!
alsome!
i want basketball!!!!!!!!!!!
now i hav a question..... if they use halo as a game for project natal.... HOW DO U MOVE FORWARD/BACK/LEFT/RIGHT WITHOUT EVENTUALLY RUNNING OUT OF SPACE?!?!?!? we all kno how halo is when we hav to run around n stuff. what if we wanna run far in one perticular direction? i mean u can only move so far each way in ur home before u run into or knock something over and u cant go any farther. i wanna kno how they r gonna make up for that tiny problem.....
Im reallying looking forward to seeing what Peter Molyneux does with it as he seems very involved and i can see him being one of the first to pump out a RPG. I Cant wait to be standing in my room swinging my sword in all different directions and using my bow :D. I also see the first few games coming out to be similar to Wii Sport/Resort but thats cause they will be very easy to to make. the RPG's and FPS's however will have ALOT more that will need to be done so expect them around 6 months later. Go natal go i have huge faith in you.
Over payed idiot at 2.11 theres full body movement in little big planet, natal is a fail poeple come on this is another 3DO boy.
y would i want to move while im playing a video game i play video games to relax and chill out not to freakin move around how stupid
@ holysmither, Actually.... PS knew they messed up with eye toy, and said there are some things gamers need for games, and that is a tangeble controller. controllers utilize near flawless functionality. have you seen the lag time in the painting demo with Natal? If you were trying to duck in Call Of Duty, your time to ACTUALLY get on the floor and then the lag time between.... Hmmmm.....
Atleast Microsoft is making better than Sony made with EyeToy
i agree with the guys here, SHOW ME GAMEPLAY, its gamespot not talkspot, and all previous vedios i ve seen show simple games non of the games is for core gamers.
Flop!!
it would be good if this video show gameplay instead of random people doing motion crap
FAIL
Natal is pretty much the most amazing thing I've seen in decades. My mind still has trouble accepting that it works. It's like magic the way it detects people, hands, feet, with such accuracy. :D Can't wait to try it out in the dark to see if the infrared cameras really works with no light. As for the people saying they want Halo on this, I couldn't disagree more. I want original games made specifically for Natal, not existing console games shoehorned into Natal. The Nintendo DS was best suited for new games based upon using the touch screen, it was not best suited for gameboy advance type of games. I expect Natal to introduce new game genres that we've never seen or played before the same way that the Nintendo DS did.
Firestrife: yeah, motion gaming really won't last. I mean, look at the Wii, it's not like it's the most popular console or anyth-- oh wait.
bam bam bam BOOM BOOM BOOM!!! is that fun??? natal = fail...
Imagine playing Halo Natal with NATAL AND A CONTROLLER!!!!!!! Thats what you all dont understand that there is going to be a combination of these 2 in fps,rpg and racing games !!! Now imagine playing Halo Natal walking with the left stick, looking around with the right stick and head-tracking ALSO ,throwing grenades, crouching, punching, leaning and giving commands with NATAL!!!!! That would be so COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No-one looked like they were really having much fun.. Except the people watching because they got to watch everyone else wave their arms around and look like fools. I can't see it really lasting. To me, video games always means a controller. And I prefer the standard controllers for most games.
microsoft are so excited with natal that they are rushing into it too fast..i still havent seen any actual demo..look at ps3 motion demo..when they do sometihn thye do gd and proud of it..microsoft knows natal was shown too early to the public and they scared to show live demo..LOL..pretty funny...i think thye should continue developemnt on this.
yeah it lagged in the stage shows aswell, like 200ms
It's impressive ( and i do mean it is impressive i would love to have this), BUT i'm hearing from IGN, and other gaming magazines/websites that Natal Suffers from lag o_O. Which hopefully will be dealth with because can any of you imagine Halo Natal? ^_^ PS Seriously you elitists people that think about "pro" gaming not being applicable to Natal are just lazy! I mean seriously what's wrong with actually moving around to play a video game? I for one would like a fighting game that used natal, or a more accurate fps that doesn't use an in-accurate thumb stick to aim with (granted though with natal it would be a little bit more weird since it won't have what Wii and PS3's Motion Controller will have aka an accurate remote for gun simulation/aiming.)
I am wanting to know how this will work for the "core" games which Microsoft like to state. Yes, you can configure the room, and if you walk forward so does your character, but there is a problem. The room ends, the virtual world of the game you are supposed to walking in, keeps going, what do you do when you walk forward and hit the TV, do you run back and do it again, wait, the character will run backwards. Yes we do need to see more than just a kicking ball example or a demo that has people taking images of skateboards that can be captured in game. Or the Lionhead example they gave, which wasn't live but was filmed and shown, so how will it work for FPS, RTS, RPG, MMORPG, any genre other than party style mini-games, I am eager to know.
ooo...kaaii... Oo myeh... big meh...
Do we really need to use pelvis to bunch those balls? LMAO.
As before at E3, still nothing actually shown .. just a bunch of people doing prescripted gestures in front of a camera .... which look peculiarly like what gestures one would do in front of the EyeToy .... four years ago.
Hm. Underwhelming. Was basically everything they said at E3 minus all the action. Interesting notes though on the camera being IR and the 'dynamic play-space adjustment' thing. IR kinda explains how they are able to track movements so much better than EyeToy (apart from ofcourse being a MUCH newer technology). But how exactly is the 'room-size' going to factor into a game? Unless it's a couch-potato simulator or something. Actually that could work brilliantly. You should not move the SLIGHTEST bit or you 'fail' the game. Would also be a nice test of Natal's accuracy :P (did I just spill out an idea that would have earned me thousands of....Zimbabwean dollars? NOM)
Pointless video. So basically, you need to be a great athlete in the first place to "play" Natal for several hours a day. I'm sure casual and hardcore gamers alike will love this. NOT.
Seems like I'm gonna need to work on my fitness. stupid it may be , I'll have to try it just like I did with the Wii
I'm glad i play PC games and that crap won't be touching me. NATAL is basically Microsofts way of trying to steal Nintendo Wii's consumer/custommer base since they sold so many. This guy/douche bag with bono glasses says it'll be good for core gamers? Highly HIGHLY doubtful, it's like saying the Nintendo Wii is like the new pro gamer platform. Can an core gamer here who plays 3 hours+ a day think to themselves what they would look like using NATAL to play an RPG? Casting magic? swirlying your hands around? maybe u can get an infrared axe or wand it can pick up, then all you need is some wizards clothes and a hat, and you are right there in the land of... really REALLY queer
What a joke.
"no matter how many buttons or analogue sticks you put on a controller, your never going to get blah blah blah" well guess what mister...........a controller can "shoot" and when u run out of space in the room, an analogue stick can keep u moving if u hold it in one direction. physical controllers ftw! this stuff should be for the casual games......if they bring it to the big franchises like fifa or pro evolution soccer for example its gonna be totally ruined.
@irrhood damn right
this video just reminds me how all the people that I use to love watching are gone :-(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR5JKV7ariM&feature=player_embedded#t=13 here you can see the screen and the person playing. since i never played this stupid game it doesnt really help me with checking how accurate or responsive natal is :(
If it ain't "handicap accessible" I'm suing the pants off Microsoft!
Pretty innovative stuff, but pointless and useless. Gamers don't want to make exercise or exaggerated movements while gaming, this was proven by the Wii already. And are you serious? Shooters? How? pointing at the screen and yelling "bam! bam! 'nade! reload!", doesn't work for me. And RPGs?? isn't that already invented and called "real life"?
Wouldn't have made more sense to place the camera behind the person so we can the TV in front of them? Not really sold on Project Natal and this video did nothing to change it. Like silver hawk said, it kind of makes me more skeptical of it.
It seems like walking foreword far in games might make problems, unless you just lean foreword defeating the intended use.
I just saw a bunch of nerds jumping around a room. how exactly was this a demo?
I'm sorry but did we just watch a 3:30 minute video showing casing Natal without ever seeing the technology? Is there something to hide?
Some of you guys are stupid. It's optional to a controller. Meaning, YOU DON'T HAVE TO GET IT! For those who do get it, you will be able to enjoy games without controllers, and maybe games with controllers that are only ENHANCED with Natal features. Imagine giving commands to your squad members or navigating the dashboard with swipes of your hands. Use your imagination please. Hopefully Microsoft can pull it off so we can have some amazing games in the future. Hopefully sony can pull of their wand and create some other amazing games. EVERYONE WINS! Stop complaining! And trust me, I love the controller input as much as anyone. But you just have to be welcome to new and interesting technologies. Use your imagination to think of the ways it could be utilized.
shadow-warlord, I kind of agree with you, the only issue i foresee Natal having is simply 'Latency' given that there is no direct input device (wand, etc), therefore the motion is purely captured by the camera(s) which is then processed, however a dircetly connected device like a 'Wand' or Nunchuck etc are directly connected either by Wireless or BluTooth therefore providing a 1:1 instant response. Therefore i think MS will release a 'Wand-like' addon which can be used in conjuction to Natal. There was rumours of a 'Biometric' wand in development, but not sure if it was canned.
I'don't think it;s going to be as good as the ps motion controller. It has a lot of lag between the movements of the player and the virtual playerand it could be very tiring in some games. The ps3 wand on the other side has 1/1 tracking and could be be implemented in many games ( resident evil 5, Lbp e.t.c). P.S I'am not a ps fanboy, i'm just telling my opinion.
for natal to be good its gonna have to support hardcore games rather than only sports games
Interesting... so how much is this going to cost?
Natal looks good but i wouldnt by it over a simple cotroller, at least you can do stuff that you cant yourself (backflips, driving, rodeo). But fps games could become fairer with this because u actually have to have some marksmanship skill to play instead of a quick trigger finger, just saying
I'm not gonna lie, in response to the intro...if I wanted to do anything like play basketball or exercise...I'd actually do it. Also, I wish they showed some actual video of what they were doing. I'm curious about the reaction delay. I'm hoping it's improved since E3. Infrared for all lighting, I didn't know that, I like that. I kinda agree with NoLifeGamin on Natal's development. For a while I wondered how something like this with its claims wasn't ever around before and being brought through a gaming console. Well, considering how Natal's system is utilized, it doesn't fit better anywhere than interactive gaming, so I'm gaining interest. Anyways, I'm looking forward to what developers come up with. I'm curious as to how and what we get versus the concept trailers MS has released for Natal.
Project Natal has some good things going for it but its just seems like Natal is to much of a game changer. People still like the feel of the controller and that is not going away for quite some time. I think it will be at least 5 years before we start to see concrete things for it.
lol i wouldn't be surprised if there is gonna be an on-rails shooter for Natal named "FingerBang".....and it would be why i would ditch my PS3 for a 360......ONLY reason, just for Natal :D, but i am surprised that the Japanese didn't develop this kind of crazy stuff first......WIN FOR WEST SIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow this could really change GAMING, just imagine playing fable and you walk in real life and so dose ur character u sing ur arm he swings a swords, the possibilities could be endless
Kudo Tsunoda sound like Billy Mays :O
