Punch-out was an action/fighting experience made for those heavily attached to boxing. Others? Not so much.

Punch-out is a classic nes game that was so popular it made it's way to Animal Crossing on the gamecube as one of the collectible nes games that you could play. Although it was popular, it eludes me as to why. I regret to inform the diehard fans out there, but punch-out seemed like a game for boxer fans, but no one else.

First off, it was short, and had virtually no replay value unless you liked beating people up. It had virtually no story line, only one main character, and it was an advance-to-the-next-round type of game where there was a strict line between the beginning and the end. I myself am not a boxing fan, but rather a gaming fan. This game was fun to play through for a while, but then after I beat it, it became quite boring.

The music, even for the nes, was primitive. The graphics weren't bad, and motions were relatively smooth. Now, I don't know if it was my controller, or if the controls for the game were actually horrible. I hate to say it, but this game just wasn't meant to be.

Short review, I know, but there isn't much to say about this game. A short game has a short review, eh? So my view stands firm. This game is only valuable for those that seek to beat others in a fighting game. Boxing fans would have a blast, and people who only play games through once may enjoy it as well, but for me, this game had no replay value, no first-time-through value, and I found it a relatively boring experience. Once I was done playing this game, I traded it back in. Simple as that. How it made it's way to be the popular game it is now, and I mean popular enough to be on the virtual console, and to be mentioned and playable in another nintendo game, is absolutely beyond me. But hey, if you liked it, so be it. Personally this game was a wreck, though.
