Though a little repetitive with the enemies, Power rangers: The Movie is a nice beat 'em up that entertains well.

What would you expect from a movie licensed game?
Crap, that's what.
You've probably played bad movie licensed games, like "Bee game" and "How to train your dragon" on Xbox 360, or maybe even "Toy story" on Sega Genesis. It's getting hard to find good games based off movies.
Lately, Movie-Licensed games on Xbox 360 serve a purpose:
Easy gamerscore.
But not all Movie-licensed games are bad, and the Genesis classic "Power rangers: the movie" proves it.
The gameplay is similar to the old arcade machine games, such as "X-men" or "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". You keep moving right, and beat up everything is your path. It does get kind of tedious, because the enemies get knocked to the ground very easily, and since there's no "Finishing attack", or "Ghetto stomp" move, you have to wait for them to get back on their feet before you can hit them again.
You can play as either the blue, red, white, pink, yellow, or black ranger, which is nice, but each character is only slightly different.
And that's the main gripe I have with this game, because each ranger is way to similar to one another.
I'll run you through the controls, so you you have a better idea of what I mean.
The "A" button does this weird cyclone-style spin kick that hits the enemies both in front of you and behind you, so it's useful when you're flanked by "Ooze men".
The "B" button is your standard attack button, and when you tap it repeatedly, you can use your combo attack, and it's also used for air attacks, dash attacks, air-dash attacks, you get the idea. You can also hold it to charge up your special attack.
And "C" jumps. No need to go into much more detail than that.
Finally, when you double-tap the D-pad in the desired direction, you can sprint.
You can find all kinds of cool attack moves. If you attack while moving in midair, your ranger does some air punch, but if you attack while jumping straight up, you do a back flip kick. Not to mention, you can also do a flying ninja kick if you dash, jump, then hit the attack button.
So, that's three different jump attacks at your disposal. And since the control is nice and responsive, it works out well.
Now that I've got that out of the way, I'll get back to what I was saying about the rangers being to similar.
The only real difference between all the rangers is their charge attack, their dash attack, and their combo finish.
I know it sounds confusing, but I'll try to explain.
Each character's combo is the same. Left jab, left jab, right jab, spin kick.
But they all finish off this combo differently.
For example, after the spin kick, the blue ranger jabs with a spear, but the white ranger slices with his sword.
As for the dash attack, they're basically the same as the finishing combo attack.
Now, I'll talk about the charge attack. When you hold the B button, your character starts to flash. Once you release the button, your ranger unleashes an extra-powerful attack that knocks enemies to the ground.
This is usually one of the harder attacks to pull off, because of two things.
1: the attack doesn't take long to charge up, but if you get hit while your attack is charging, you have to press and hold the B button again. And this happens a lot, because the enemies have got you all figured out. Here's how it works.
They run in, punch you a couple times, and run back out. Rinse, and repeat.
The second problem ties into the first one. but it only applies to characters that shoot projectiles, like the black ranger. The enemies are running all over the place, so it's hard to get a good shot. You've gotta get lucky and hope that one of them runs into your attack by accident.
Speaking of the black ranger, this game manages to be the most racist one I've seen on the Genesis so far.
You know how the black ranger is actually black, right? well, guess what his special attack is.
No, Seriously, just guess.
A gun.
Yeah.
The only character who's black, and he has a gun. Now, I'm not done.
You know how the yellow ranger is actually Asian? Guess what HER special attack is.
Ninja knives. Yep.
Overall, It's a good game, since all the little flaws I've listed don't really get in the way of your enjoyment. It's a classic 2-D beat 'em up, and a good one at that. Good control, Nice graphics, and a neat fighting system make this game a great addition to your Genesis library.
