Clash of Heroes is a fresh and addicting game and one of the best of 2009. Might & Magic fans should still be proud

User Rating: 9.5 | Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes DS
I just realized something. I have been giving alot of high scores (9 to 10 range) out to DS games. Some might think I'm giving too high a score, being too generous perhaps.

No! I'm serious, the games deserve the scores because they truly are spectacular. 2009 has been a fantastic year for the DS, and I've played some amazing games on the system. In fact some of my favorite games are on the DS.

And another thing. Ubisoft has continued to surprise me with exciting DS games. Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes is yet another near perfect game from Ubisoft (the 3rd this year), one that I hope people don't overlook or turn down simply because of the series' changes.

One of these changes, possibly the biggest, is the art. At first glance the game might look like a child's game because the art is bright and colorful, and characters look like anime from a tv show, something similar to Avatar. This isn't a bad thing. The game is crisp and works much better because of the visuals.

Gameplay is different too. This isn't a puzzle/rpg game like a Puzzle Quest game. Its an entirely different thing, only similar to a Puzzle Quest game in the sense that it re-defines videogame genres.

Battles have a puzzle element, but are still battles at heart. The basic set up goes like this. Your army difers depending on your main character, and you line them up to build formations. You're given a # of turns and you build walls, use unique special powers, and position your troups so that they strike through an open spot in your enemy's army.

Your army is on the touch screen, your enemy on the top. To inflict damage you simply strike the back of the top screen until your enemy is defeated. Then you gain experience much like in an rpg, only its not too complex and very easy to wrap your mind around.

Which means this game is perfect for any age. The story is also fun and much better than the stories in alot of RPGs on the system.

When you aren't fighting you explore the fantasy world around you. You move along a forced path, like a board game, which is rather odd but in the end adds to the game's unique feel. I promise you've never played a game like Clash of Heroes.

The music is also top-notch. I really love it when a game provides excellent music, and Clash of Heroes is the perfect example of fantastic and cinematic music.

You can use the stylus or classic d-pad and buttons, which is also a plus.

Once again, Might and Magic: COH is one of the best games on the DS, one of the best games of 2009, and another great game from Ubisoft.

Just like Ubisoft's Rabbids Go Home on the DS, Clash of Heroes shouldn't be passed up.
