Might & Magic is a compelling action-adventure title that shows that mobile games are capable of being more than Puzzlers or Card-games. The game tells the story of a young man named Ewan who is out to rescue his abducted king and save the kingdom from a demonic invasion. The story progresses through little dialogue-driven cut-scenes which introduce new characters and objectives. Throughout your journey you will meet the elvin archer Lorean as well as the shapeshifting, and possibly vampiric, Kayu.
The gameplay is simple and follows the tried and true formula of all action-adventures. You will push blocks onto switches and fight and kill enemies to gain keys to open doors. The twist comes in when you are given control of one or both of the other two characters and will have to use all three to solve various puzzles to progress through the game.
The main character Ewan fights with a sword and is also capable of gaining items that give him special abilities. By the end of the game Ewan will be able to swing across chasms, climb walls, walk over spikes, and use fire and wind magics. Ewan is also the only character capable of being healed with medicinal herbs collected from treasure chests. Lorean has a bow that you will use to hit otherwise inaccessible switches, and Kayu is able to transform into a bat, a cloud of mist, and a wolf, all three of which will be vital to navigating through the game's later levels. While there are only a handful of enemies in the game, including bats, skeletons, mace-wielding ogres, and wizards, the inclusion of a few boss battles provide enough variety to make the game interesting.
The graphics of Might & Magic are very impressive with vibrant colors and interesting character designs. Some moments during the cut-scenes caused my Samsung SCH-A650 to slow down a bit, but otherwise the game's animations are all very smooth. The music in Might & Magic is nice to listen to, and the sound effects are well-done. But if you're like me you'll find yourself turning the sound off while you play, if only to save on your phone's battery life.
When playing through for the first time, Might & Magic can offer upwards of three to four hours of gameplay. It isn't the type of game that you will want to play through in one sitting, but you will find yourself playing it often, in small doses. The game's replayability seems to justify its $7.00 price-tag more so than some other mobile phone games.
Might & Magic is a great action-adventure game that, like many mobile phone-based games, ends far too quickly and leaves you wanting more. But unlike many, you'll find yourself coming back to Might & Magic when you have a few minutes of free time at the office or on the train.

The plot was decent; however, the game was too short to have any major value.

- This is a manuscript from MM9 describing such an event that happened and also tries to pin point a location I couldn't quite find, but I so wish to find. Maybe there is something more here which I haven't found yet.Posted May 3, 2007
