- Hard
- Time Spent:
- 40 to 100 Hours
- The Bottom Line:
- "Best in series"
There isn't much of a story in Midnight Club LA, but that's fine. You are an east coast driver looking to make it big in the City of Angels. You'll meet several drivers along the way.
The gameplay is great. It's open world where you are free to explore the city at will. During the races, the game uses a checkpoint system to guide you where to go. You have sprint, circuit, unordered races, time trials, delivery, and payback missions to add race variety. The races are fast and frantic as you discover the shortcuts in the city which is key to your success. The A.I wil put up quite a fight, making sure races are close. You have arcade mode, photo mode, a race editor which lets you make your own couses through the city and race them online. There is a lot of content in MC:LA and there is a ton of replay value with online play.
Visually, the game is simply stunning. The lighting throughout the city, whether at night or day, is amazing. The water effects when it rains and weather changes add to the gorgeous visuals. Cars look great and the frame rate is solid. Audio in the game is servicable with descent voice acting, and good engine noises and tire screeching.
Overall, Midnight Club Los Angeles is a lot of fun to play made all the better by amazing visuals and awesome online multiplayer.
