Wow! A good movie game. Interesting. I didn't think those were allowed to exist.

I picked this up to get ready for the movie not expecting any other than a quick cash-in (the horrendous Bads Boys game unfortunately comes to mind), however, to my surprise, this is a good game. Rebellion has stepped up their game after Dead To Rights, and created something that is a great prequel to the upcomming movie. The events in the game will give you a back story for the movie and this helps make it worth playing. The big question is whether it plays good. The answer is yes.

The game plays like a cross between kill.switch, Winback, and Resident Evil 4. I know there are no zombies, but the aiming system from RE4 is present here and it works really well for the PSP setup. The game also uses an interesting cover system like that found in kill.switch and Winback. You can take cover, lean out or over, and take out those drug dealers using the precision targeting of a laser sight on the tip of the gun. It also helps that the enemies act when getting shot, though enemies are kinda stupid. The good thing is that they have good aim so they are always lethal especially when out in the open. There are also 3 speedboat levels which are only ok, but they do help to break up game so it doesn't get boring. The only downside to the gameplay is the hacking minigame which is stupid, but it is required to get the upgrades and drug barons. The drug barons have little scenarios that have you trying to sell drugs but also still maintaining your cover. It's cool, but way too easy.

The graphics are surprisingly good. The characters don't move their mouths when they talk, but they look good. There is a lack of variety in the enemies, but that's typical in a shooter of this nature. The backgrounds and environments all look above average and borderline amazing at times. The voices are not Colin Farrell or Jaime Foxx, but they are satisfactory. The enemies repeat the same phrases over and over which gets a little old.

There are 3 difficulty levels, but the game is a little short. It'll probably take you six or seven hours initially with the first character, with another 4 or 5 to beat it again with the second character and to unlock the cheats. Perfect length for a protable game with quick load times too. Also there is a multiplayer coop mode that you can play with a friend.

Overall, the game is amazing for a movie tie-in and I am happy to report that it isn't another quick way for the company to make cash. Rebellion sat down and put some time into this which I am thankful for. The game is quite good and if you are looking for a good shooter or are excited about the movie and want to get a little backstory for the movie then this is the game for you.
