Metroid Zero Mission is a remake of the original Metroid game on the NES, and it still holds up to today's standards.

Just to let the readers know, Metroid Zero Mission was my first Metroid game ever. It's the perfect game for beginners, considering it's a remake of the original Metroid on the NES. Despite being a remake, Metroid: Zero Mission has a lot of extra content. There's a whole new chapter to Samus's adventure added after you beat the original final boss. You can also unlock the original Metroid if you really want that old-school feel.
The plot is exactly what you'd expect, considering the time period it was released.
The only downfall to Metroid is its length. This is another part where the game shows its age. I beat it in just over 3 hours on my first run-through, but I didn't get 100% of the items. Still though, I definitely took my time.

Break Down:
Gameplay: Full of innovation in design and lots of fun to play. Lots of open-ended exploring to do. (9)

Graphics: Wonderfully artistic design. Detailed characters and fluid animations. Beautiful backgrounds bring about a very moody atmosphere. (10)

Sound: Music is very mood-setting, much like the backgrounds, and you'll likely be humming the Brinstar theme whilst you blast your way through the adventure. Some of the sound effects are a little annoying. (9)

Value: A short adventure that kept me occupied for around three hours the first play through. After you beat it there's not much else to do but beat it faster on a different difficulty setting. Good luck finding all those hidden items, though. (generous 8)
