Metro's Last Light is not quite burned out yet.

Immersion: How Does Metro Last Light attempt to immerse the player in it's world. Let's start with audio, the big one. The Metro game was made in the Ukraine, where Ukrainian Russian is the language spoken, not English. The game ships with audio tracks in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and German, but as it was made in a Russian (Ukrainian) speaking country, there is some justification for using the Russian audio track. Assuming players use the Russian language track, does it enhance the experience? It does force players to pay closer attention to the game by making them focus on the subtitles, unless they speak Russian that is. So, spoken language aside, which we'll take as given is somewhat immersive, how is the rest of the audio? It generally works well, the main character's raspy breathing and a high point being the echo effect created by your gas mask early in the game. The weapons sound like guns as well. Before we tackle story, how about graphics? Well, these are impressive, but the game doesn't give players much time to enjoy them, and the returns diminish over time. What about the plot, is that emotionally involving? Well, not particularly, there's some stuff about three factions and a certain location and, after a while players will likely stop caring. The longer players play the game, the less immersive it seems to be. 7/15 (with Russian audio).

Difficulty: Apart from the controversial Ranger mode, difficulty doesn't contribute much to the game, nor does it take away from the game. Occasionally enemies will surprise players from behind Dead Space style, on higher difficulty settings, this could be a problem. 7/15

Lasting Appeal: This is where Metro Last Light falls down. It is a quest game, with limited replay value apart from trying higher difficulty settings, but not all players will do this. As previous noted, the game loses appeal over time as well. 5/15

Overall: Starts strong, then goes limp. 6/15
