When I heard "Quick time events" that's it, I'm not buying this game, they are completly annoying.

Chris Watters takes us below the streets of a postapocalyptic Moscow in this video review for Metro 2033.
Well at least I am not the only person who thought this game was god aweful. The controls are clunky, character slow, guns are even slower and the game requires so much power in the action sequences between you and the mutant things it makes you wonder why you would even bother. Yes it looks good, yes it is a cool idea for a game, yet they couldn't carry it through.
The only good thing about this game is its visual presentation. The lighting is perfect and textures look amazing.
The actual gameplay is horrid. For starters, your character feels clunky and slow as shit and the weapons are lame.
The worst part about Metro 2033 is that it's 90% scripted events, and 10% cutscenes/quicktime events. It doesn't even feel like a game, it feels like a movie, and I absolutely hate that about modern games.
got it for free today for liking their facebook page. Free was my reason to finally play this game. Then maybe I will spend money on the other ones.
the reviewer is so boring that i felt sleeping and this is only 5 mnts review , like wtf !!!!
I dunno why people keep saying this game look good. even COD8 has better graphics than this!!! and I am talking about pc
I never fully appriciated the gfx until a recent gfx card upgrade (GTX670). Now I play it eveything maxed at 1080P and I think it looks great especially as it's now over 2 years old.
Could have been optimised more as it still pushes my system to the max.
@Shadownk lol u must have either xbox version or bad pc i have it maxed out awesome graphics
@Shadownk the graphics weren't amazing, but I loved the game itself. Great atmosphere.
This is the best game i've ever played (pc) and the best book i've ever read, its such an immersive universe, and not enough people appreciate it, yes it has its flaws, but what honestly doesnt, you've got to see it for what it is, and keep in mind this is the developers first ever release, they havent had years to work out the kinks with other titles, so they did a bloody good job, it is 100% worth your time, its the first game I ever bothered to unlock every achievment for, the sequel looks awesome, go play it. If you appreciate a fantastic, compelling story, and an atmospheric experience you'll always remeber, then you wont regret it, metro 2033 wont dissapoint, unless you go in with a run and gun cod frame of mind, like your head has recently caved in. All I can say is it's one of those rare games where you feel like you actually are the protagonist and you actually took part in the adventure, and thats what makes a good game...
@NicholasT33 @skipper1993 I bought a copy of Spec Ops in a steam sale a while back, but I haven't actually got round to playing it yet so I can't say. I like comparing Metro 2033 to Half Life because it uses similar mechanics and methods of storytelling, but you might not see it in that light.
If your still on the fence about whether or not you are going to invest in Metro 2033 all I can say I guess is that I personally thought it was brilliant, a real breath of fresh air despite its faults and I recommend it to people who love story driven Sci-Fi FPS games. Watching some reviews might help if you still can't decide, and even then try and pick it up cheap in a steam sale, even if you don't like the gameplay or story after playing it the experience is an unforgettable one, hope that helps ;)
Iv owned this for the past year and a half and still haven't really played it but the Comments Below tell me i should Re-consider and give another Chance.
This game is not amazing. The review is dead on. The shooting mechanics are great when fighting the creatures but it really feels like the scenes where you fight other humans were just thrown in there. Both you and them can take too many bullets which leaves it feeling like Fallout 3 gameplay, minus the role playing. Having more realistic responses to gunfire seems like a common goal among newer, shooter based titles. It feels like a lot more work could have been put in to that.
@RCT4ShouldExist i agree with the whole awkward fighting but the game give u varies options the just straight fight i distract assasinate and even confused alot of the ai if u ever played a difficult shooting game (no halo and cod are not difficult ) the u will enjoy this shooting style
Just finished this game -- and it's AMAZING. I definitely think this game deserves a higher score than 7.5, as it's a more engrossing and entertaining experience than almost every other shooter I've played this generation. And maybe I'm blind, but I thought the visuals in this game were great. What the f*** is up with the "Whites of their eyes look too white" criticism? That is some extroidinarily poor journalism there. Seriously amatuer.
Excellent review. Game looks nice, just not my thing. I'll wait for Rage:) PS:the sequel should be superb.
@darkgroudon For real. WTF? You know the game is good when that is one of the "worst" things about it....Poor review score once again....
"the white's of peoples eyes look to white..."... WTF? seriously? your going to complain about that.?
Played a few hours of the game. Love walking around the settlements, soaking it up. Can't see why some reviewers are bummed about this game, although 7.5 is still a good score if you care about scores. I would give it an 8.0 for sure. The visuals are great, the combat and weapons are fun and the atmosphere is definately the best aspect of the game. Some of the movement animations are a bit dodgy and when you pull up ironsights the hands and weapon looks like a cardboard cutout that is floating on the screen :-) I would also like weapons to pack more punch. But overall this is a fantastic game that I will remember like Half Life 2 and Bioshock. BTW MattDeVito, it's utterly ridiculous to judge this game without playing it. It's a unique experience that blows away games like Homefront and Bad Company single-player.
I'm not droppin more than 20 bucks so I can experience some dingy atmosphere. Looks like a generic combination of every other game out there. I don't get why Watters likes it so much
I thought people were joking when they singled out the "whites of peoples' eyes" comment, but they weren't kidding! He totally says that, and he sounds 100% serious when he says it too! "And the whites of peoples' eyes feel a bit too white." Oh man, that is so ridiculous. That is so bad! My hot chocolate came out of my nose when I heard him say it all serious, I couldn't stop laughing. Way to go, reviewer guy! At least you can find ways to separate your stuff from the other game journalists out there. Everyone should check this out. He especially hits the T in the second 'white' pretty hard, makes the whole thing sound funny.
"The whites in peoples eyes feel a bit too bright...". Maybe it's the radiation. Is this really something to complain about. I felt the same way about the eyes in Call of Duty and Halo...
also you dont need to buy any weapon because in the next level you can find it hidden somewhere
i own the game,i observed that most of the carecters look the same, they are diferent just because they wear diferent clothes or glases or something else, but the faces are the same, the story was nice but still someting was missing, like a final monster bigger than others,o,the graphics are ok,small number of weapons tough
Wow! This is a really poor review. Too much overanalysis. Don't tell about the atmosphere when I want to know about the story. There is a difference between "atmosphere" and storytelling. As far as the story goes, it doesn't offer anything special. The characters are underdeveloped, and the story is cliche for the most part. This reviewer didn't have to go into all of those details about how amazing the atmosphere is, when the core gameplay mechanics are still largely unoriginal. What a huge disappointment this is.
Go onto video sites like Youtube and look up gameplay of the PC version played at max. There won't be any doubts after that. At 3:00 the creatures shadow on the wall is horrible, DX11 never has those problems.
Don't know why they only did a review for the crappy 360 version. Everything he talks about with visuals only applies to the garbage console game. On PC this is one of the best looking game out there. There aren't flaws. The only flaw is that your computer may not be able to run its beauty. Anyone with a PC must own this game, it is better than a 8.0 and it is a shame that the 360 version shares the same name and degrades the quality of the PC version. PC games always look better, especially with DX11 turned on. Metro 2033 is up there graphically with Crysis and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It isn't very expensive now and is a must buy for PC gamers.
Yea I agree, X box is a waste of time and it puts PC games down constantly...
I played the pc and the 360 version and the xbox version is crap, its not a console game, its the kind of game you play on pc to really get the fell of it and the graphic are 10 times better on pc. so if your not a pc gamer, this game is not for you, but if you are a pc gamer, you must buy this game
Visual blemishes? Wtf is he talking about? I have the PC version and it has the best visuals I've ever seen in a game. And I played through crysis on highest settings. 360 can't be THAT much different can it? This is one of my favourite games, definitely pick it up if you're unsure. Amazing atmosphere, and the combat is unique and really intense. You really get into the world quite easily.
