Metro 2033 - a satisfying adventure, which ended too soon for my liking.

Story-based first person shooters are rare to find these days, so when the rumors started circulating about Metro 2033 I was immediately intrigued. I have played the Stalker games on PC and I loved them, so Metro 2033 was a game I knew would capture my attention for a long time. In a nutshell, let me just say that it is a very under-appreciated game. After being released for a few days, most people found it to be wanting in some areas, but gamers should in fact, sit down and think about the idea behind it. Every little aspect of this game has a meaning and a very well thought off one. Metro 2033 is a first-person shooter, story-driven at that, with outstanding atmosphere, graphics and sound design. Story
I consider myself a story freak. I enjoy great stories in video games and I have to admit I loved Metro 2033's story. It seemed simple, but the presentation, the interaction and the characters made it a lot more enjoyable and extremely engaging. You play as Artyom, born and bred under the Moscow Metro after post-apocalyptic tragedy. The events take place in a 7-day period, so the tension and emotion that Artyom is going through is enhanced tremendously. His purpose is to get help from one of the other metro stations against a new mutant thread – more powerful than ever seen before. 8.5/10

Graphics
I would have to say graphics and textures swing from excellent to "they should have done a better job with this". On PC, the game has reached an almost benchmark status though. The attention to detail is almost astonishing. 9/10

Sound/Voice acting
Metro 2033 is one of the most atmospheric game you would ever play. Think Dead Space for example and Metro 2033 can easily rival it in terms of atmospheric journey. The game is very immersive at times. Voice acting is very authentic for most parts, with the exception of voice overs of little kids and female characters. Those are few and far between though. Besides, I can relate to every bit of humor or expression the characters show. 9/10

Gameplay
Metro 2033 features a good set of weaponry, but some people complain about the gunfights and the feel it gives. My understanding of the game lore is that the weapons were supposed to be junk, since majority were created underground from scrap metal. This explanation fits the best and it makes the game look more realistic. I for one enjoyed a lot, but the devs should have maybe animated the enemies a little better, when shot. In Metro 2033, you can buy different weapons or a new suit/armor and the game mechanics use military grade bullets as currency. 8/10

Overall
Well, it is a game that is unique in a sense and many Eastern Europeans would find it very good and well-remembered. The game features two different endings and the combination of excellent story, good presentation and atmospheric environments make it a must have game and one of the most under-appreciated ones at that. As for me, I am already waiting for Metro 2034. 9/10
