    Spoilers obviously.

I'm having really mixed emotions abous this game. I played for perhaps two hours a couple of weeks ago, but was not at all impressed with the tedious combat when facing alot of knee hight enemies spawning in the dozens (and a not so overwhelming shoot out with bandits), so I gave up. I simply found the gameplay to be too dull.

Just yesterday I picked it up again, deciding to give it another shot, and I was playing the part when you break up with your pal (Bourbon?) and go explore for yourself fo the first time, and was totally blown away with the atmosphere. Creeping through those empty apartments "overground" was just so good, and reminded med a lot about Stalker, which I totally LOVE

(It was the part when you get a flashback of the playground, for those who's wondering)

Even the ever so annoying monsters were frightening in that setting! I loved it, even though it only lasted for a good 30 mins or so.

Then again I'm thrown into a annoying part with humans, then another drawn out part with my new pal involving yes more mindless shooting at endless waves of monsters attacking... So I decided to quit again, simply because the action parts in the game doesn't compell me at all.

But as written above, I did LOVE the suspence when walking alone, exploring, and feeling actual fear. I also love the way the game tackles the HUD, the flashlight, ammo system, and pretty much everyuthing about it. But the action... :/

So, how are the rest of the game? I can surely live with a couple of rail shootings, or king of the hill shoot outs if there's alot of the aforementioned horror parts, but if it's all (or too much) action I might as well drop it, since I didn't really enjoy those parts.

    Should I continue?

    I LOVE YOU

There are a couple more "survival wave" sequences, and there's an entire level of those anklebiters (including a complication that you can't move freely), so if those are real gamebreakers for you I can't say that it'll only get better from that point forward.

In general I'm not a big fan of the survival waves, but they do provide a nice contrast to the stealth sections and the exploration sections, so I don't mind overall.

it continues pretty much like that: super awesomely atmospheric scenarios with some mildly crappy action/gameplay. in the end I think it's definitely worth it; the action/gameplay is not really all that bad, and the rest is very very good.

if you don't care for those knee height enemies then you will love the book of the same name.
