Sure, you think you've stumbled upon another Pokemon clone. Not so -- Metal Walker is a truly unique game with its own approach to battle/collecting. True, you journey around an island trying to defeat enemies and gather data about everything you find, but the similarities really stop there. You have only one robot to use in battle, but it can be upgraded and downgraded in various combinations. The combat system is more like playing pool, and offers various nuances to the experienced player. Enemies must be scanned, not caught, and the challenge of using battle capsules correctly adds a fun element. On the downside, you will spend a lot of time walking and trying to get through areas where you will be attacked every two steps, but overall this game has been unfairly ignored by the gaming community. It requires at least two players to find every bit of data possible, throwing some friendly competition into the mix. With no true multiplayer, that's the best you can expect. The cutscenes are stereotypical anime -- predictable and badly drawn -- but the story does make sense, and when you've won a particularly tough fight, it feels as if you've worked hard and achieved a goal. If you can find a copy of this game, I highly recommend you give it a try.
