Metal Slug NEVER been so fun to play!
This new series let players see what they see in third-person angle. The battle can be chaotic as the game moves on, from Morden troops to tanks, artillery, combat copter to mid bosses. Some situation forces players rescue 2 -3 prisoner (litterely!) and some let all hell break loose as Morden's man kept pouring into the field no longer hiding just to annihilate the player who is armed only with a pistol in hand. Interesting way to get player's attention, and I like it.
1.Gameplay (9.0)
Lots of chaotic moment where player are forced to re-think their plan of attack. Most AI will try to blast you, knife you or even run you over. Nice touch. Wanna make cherry blossam out of your foes? Slice 'em. Need to punch a few hole on enemy tanks? Blast 'em with Heavy Machine Gun. You decide. Bosses are now triple their average size, and takes a lot of punishment before it is down. Customize your Slug to become Death on Tread. It is an exploding moment, and players will love it.
2.Graphics (6)
SNK never really make use of the PS2 graphic capability. It all looks like a cartoon from the character to background, rather than real life character. The area is compact into one place. Think New York in a small remote island with nothing around but desert and a secret lab just right next door.
Overall, the graphics aren't that great, just enough to be ignore by the beauty of scream, bomb blast and rapid fire from your gun.
3.Sound (7.5)
Forget about the classic Metal Slug theme. there aren't any. ( SNK, Whats the deal here!? ) They do however have several theme used in other Metal Slug series. (Theme song for the opening movie happens to be The Highway theme ReMix) Sound effect in Metal Slug (2006) are fantastic. From the pistol to Super Grenade never sound so good. The agony and screaming voices of your foe sound just right, from firing, run them over or even slicing them never sound so much alive... God I miss the famous theme..

For all those Metal Slug fans out there, consider this way, BUY THIS GAME! Metal Slug (2006) promises all fan out there whos the real daddy in Morden's rank and put to shame on other run-and-gun game out there. with multiply weaponry, lots of grenade to keep making party out of Morden's man and big bosses to be entertain, this game is worth your money. For those who never play any run-and-gun game before, better off be playing the original Metal Slug to get use to.

I have never play this game longer than expected. This game get me hook up as I progress the entire story, average ending, humor jokes and hilarious respond from the characters themself. No Martian alien has been seen or capture or been put to kill during gameplay.
