To me Metal Gear Solid has always been my number 1 favorite video game of all time. It's a game that will probably stay at number no matter what. This game showed me that video games have a true potential to become works of art.
First I'll talk about the gameplay. It's an action game where unlike Call Of Duty games where you run around and shoot people in Metal Gear Solid you have avoid engagement with the enemy and stay out of sight. To me those types of games I kind of like better because they present a lot strategy, requires you to think more and there's a little more suspense. You start off with absolutely no weapons on you and the idea is that you salvage any weapon that you can find and this presents some equipment management because a lot of time you will be fighting against bosses and it's good to make sure you have enough ammo and enough rations for your health.
Speaking of bosses, in Metal Gear Solid they include some of boss fights in any game. Each boss fight throughout the entire is unique and requires plenty of strategy to take them down like using a type of weapon that could take them down more easily or even doing the most unorthodox like plugging the controller in the second port to take down boss that can read your mind (memory card).
Finally to me the strongest point in this game is the story. The premise of this may sound like a typical action movie. Terrorists have taken over a nuclear disposal facility and demand the government to hand over the DNA of Big Boss or else they threaten to launch a nuclear weapon. So a specialized spy codenamed Solid Snake is sent in to sneak to save the hostages and prevent the nuclear strike. As the story goes on strange occurrences are happening and the mystery begins to unfold more and more.
When I first played this I was totally blown away from how epic the story was. It feels you're actually watching a movie and if this were a movie this would be one of the best I've seen. The characters are so fantastic and what makes them so great is their personality and each have their own unique backstory with some being very tragic. With great story and "SOLID" gameplay this game to me is the best.
