I say 50 years max for some form of nanomachines
50 years? thats way too long. we already have micro autonomous robots, its only a matter of time before we break in to the nano realm.
Computer processors alone have HUNDREDS of BILLIONS of logic gates which are made up circuits using mosfet transistors. The simplest logic gates ("And" gates and "Or" gates) would use at least 3 mosfet transistors.
We already have circuits that measure in the nano.
I would say probably 10 years max, we'd start to see nano autonomous robots with actual real life functions.
and probably 20 years for nanomachines to break into biological purposes like medicine and what not.
As for METAL GEARS, the concept of a "metal gear" is way too simple. Bipedal locomotion has been already perfected. There are loads of autonomous robots using bipedal locomotion and functions AUTONOMOUSLY or without human control.
Universities alone have projects such as this. Training robots such as "Bioloid" teach students the fundamental principals of different types of robot locomotion and simple programming.
The ROBO ONE scene in japan is really huge (i live in japan) and there are hundreds of robot competitions with different categories.
The technology is here, people just don't see it.
No one would ever build a giant robot and slap a nuke on it, that's highly illogical. But we have the capabilities to actually create something as terrifying as "peace walker"
Exactly. Our civilization already have tecnology to make perfect copies of some of the mechas:
*i donīt really know about the metal gear from the first 2 metal gear games because thereīs only 2D footage.
*we can also do a perfect copy of REX, but it would be too useless, billions(or trillions) spend to make a bipedal mech that even armored would be knocked to the ground at the first rain of missiles.
*I donīt think weīl do something as agile (in both ground and water) as ray in the next 200 years. it even use a crazy technology of organic parts that use artificial blood in order to power up the arms and legs and make it more flexible.
*The Shagohod. A monster like it COULD be done and i think it COULD lauch nukes acording to sokolovīs description.
*Metal Gear RAXA. Flying quadrupedal Metal Gear, could be done, but it would be too unstable and itīs rockets wouldnīt even suport his weight in even 1 minute, because it floats in the air. and the fuel. too damn high waste of fuel
*Gekko. Just like Metal Gear Ray, too impossible because of his organic parts.
*PUPA. May be possible, but used most to destroy weak things like houses and vegetation while in high speed. But no use of those WTF acrobatics
*CHRYSALIS. I donīt need to say anything. Impossible. Maybe the aliens have it.
*COCOON. Completely possible, but it could take years and trillions of dollars to make it. imagine the guys building it during 5-10 years in the states or europe. itīs insane to transport this thing to the middle east, by example.
*Peace Walker. Like you said, completly viable. Just spend some billions and you could have a grat war machine terrorizing your enemies in the middle east. But it must be manned, of course. the AI we have today are still too fool
*ZEKE. Like Rex, could be build, but it would be useless.
May ground zeores have the most realistic mecha we will never forget

Kept you waiting, huh?
