Has some issues......

Okay. I got this game for the PS3 AND the Vita and there are some serious issues. I've only played MGS2 on the Vita and the controls are close to broken. You can do many of the basics correctly but a lot of things (Like switching weapons while holding somebody up for their dog tags) require you to play "finger twister" with the Vita. When a guard says, "Are you going to shoot?" I go ahead and prepare for the imminent alarm. The controls need serious refinement. Even simpler things like doing a chin-up or peaking out of a locker (which I STILL haven't figured out) requires going to Google.

Loading times are increased on the Vita. Choosing weapons require the touch screen and just doesn't feel reliable in a pinch. No analog buttons on the Vita means that you have to use the d-pad to raise/lower weapons. Sliding with my back against the wall is glitchier than ever.

Not only that, many people say "Just get Peace Walker from the PSN" or "Get MGS1 from the PSN". I had the disc version of MGS:PW already. I paid an extra $30 (can't remember the actual amount of the top of my head) just to have it on my Vita. It was free on the PS3 version but I'm a completest. Anyway, I had to port it from the PSN via PS3 and transfer it to the Vita. It doesn't support the right analog, rather I had to assign the right analog to take on the functions of the Triangle/square/x/o buttons. It's not all that accurate. It doesn't support "Transfarring" either. This is INSANE! Even the PSP version supports it--and this IS the PSP version of Peace Walker!! It doesn't work when I play on the Vita.

Last but not least, the Vita doesn't support PS1 games (yet). I can't port my copy of MGS1 to Vita. I was hoping for a big MGS orgy but that can't happen, yet. Yeah, I got it for the PSP/PS3 but the reason I got it for the Vita was so that I could take the whole saga anywhere. I knew a lot of these issues coming in but I thought they wouldn't be as big a deal as they turned out to be.

In the end, we get two great games that are poorly executed and we have to go through serious hoops and pay almost as much money for two games that aren't officially supported. It's just a big mess. I wonder if some of the people reviewing this game have actually even played it or if they are reviewing it based on their experience with other versions of the game.

And for the record, I even bought MGS3 for the 3DS (I'm insane when it comes to the MGS series). At least that single game is optimized for the format. The Vita Collection just let me down at every opportunity. I expected more from a series I've loved since 1987.

--It's not all bad. MGS3 is still the greatest game of all time (in my opinion) and even in its diminished form, it's still a must play. You do get the MSX versions of the 8-bit Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 titles. Graphics and sound are as sharp as ever. Just know what you're getting into.
