This game has a great story and great gameplay, but it does not deserve a ten. The last 2 levels were incredibly short and void of gameplay. The last level where you infiltrate liquid's ship should of been longer. The ship was huge, yet the level was so small.
@Derugs because all of the metal gear solid games are legendary. The story itself is better than most movies.
1 Like @Derugs Because it is art. Games are art. It is worth playing through great games more than once in the same sense that great films and books are worth watching and reading again. The game is just under five years old. This is far from an old game. Super Mario Bros. was released over twenty-five years ago and it is still fantastic. I know that most people are replaying MGS4 because of the trophy patch, but personally I don't care about trophies or achievements in any game, even MGS4. I have played it around eight or nine times, and I still love it. It is worth mentioning that on only two of these play-throughs did I watch the cutscenes, so there is at least one person who loves the gameplay as well as the incredible story. I mention this because many people jump to the conclusion that Metal Gear fans only play for the storyline. Great games are worth replaying. I know that it isn't the norm, but there are people who play games through multiple times, even though the norm is to buy a sixty dollar first-person shooter, beat its five hour campaign but play hundreds of hours of its multiplayer online.
can anyone please give this game away to me? T.T i just bought my ps3, completed uc3 and lbp2, and i suffer because theres no way i can buy this game in my country...

Yeah, missing out on like a zillion hours of the "game". Not the actual gameplay.Let me tell you, I only bought this game like a year(and a half) ago, and when I tried it I was instantly annoyed by the controls to begin with.I just couldn't get used to having to go into the frickin' menu, to change a weapon or item every time. By that I mean both changing under the "2"-triggers, and also the changing when you have to go into the menu to swap things in your inventory.
What's that about?? Snake is basically carrying EVERYTHING?! You can call up everything that is available by simply pausing the whole game and it magically appears in Snake's hands...So I stopped playing the game for like a year or more and picked it up only now recently. I got the hang of it a little bit more, although my conclusion is still that it's annoying and clunky, but I just went ahead and tried to play it anyway.So I went through act 1 and 2 and so far it was pretty enjoyable and getting better in gameplay.However, after that it started with overlong cutscenes, which I didn't skip because I'm not an impatient kill-stacker or anything. But they're sooo long and badly paced and not to mention the cheesiness of the whole thing...What's worse is that the gameplay suffers, because all I remember is playing a couple of boss-fights, which were boring, repetitive and kind of easy as well.And also things like a boring bike-chase where you can barely die and just pop some enemies here and there...On top of that, where's the great espionage-part that you started off doing?It just turns into a bloated overdramatic action-flick. I'm going to try 'Splinter Cell' again...This game is so overrated. This game makes me not want to play it anymore, I stopped playing it again and don't know when I ever might pick it up again.And it's not just me, I read similar complaints all over the internet.So a 10?? That's funny... I thiknk it struggles to get an 8, and I'm very realistic and generous when it comes rating.That's not to say, of course when I'd give it an 8 or a 7, that this game doesn't do anything right.It has good features that are not executed well or right. So it's basically flawed.On one side, if this were a movie it would never be released, with its longevity and awkward pacing. It's almost like it's reading up a novel, cause it sounds like things that were written as a story and it's all literally being told. Like that arms-dealer says, a "bedtime story".And this can barely pass as a good game, it doesn't know what it wants to be, it's messy and clunky. No, it's far from perfect and needed to be improved upon before being released. It's just overrated and ovverhyped.
@DamageIncM MG2 and 3 are amazing in every way(unless your first games were Gears and COD). MGS2 and 3 are far better than Splinter Cell. MGS4 is not very good, but don't dismiss all Metal Gear games because of this.
Also, the best graphics? Have you even played the original 'Uncharted'?Let alone the second...And audio is terrible. By that I don't mean the design of the audio that has been created first, I'm sure they're great. If only we'd actually be able to hear it properly, because when the audio becomes only remotely active, it starts to clip, and anything above that is terribly distorted.It's only OK as long as it's calmer and quieter, before the levels start to peak out and reach their limits and become distorted and flat.Unlike a game like 'Uncharted', which sounds just beautiful and dynamic.

@zxcPSP Uncharted sucks. MGS4 may be the worst METAL GEAR in the series, but it is still way better than Uncharted.
The added trophy support just makes me want to keep playing this game again & again.
any professional gamer would give this game nothing less than a 10,
mixture of long cutscenes and briefings with game is MGS type,so if you dont like the type you should go for other sorts of video games.

Console-exclusives?No, PC is getting shafted more and more.I don't know how "ACIII" is and "GTAV" for the PC, but if performance and controls are not finally fixed for those games on the PC, I'm through with those franchises.I mean, even if they're released for PC, that's no guarantee they will work well. Be it in performance or controls or anything like that.Cause games are more and more developed FOR consoles, no matter which platforms they will be released for.For example "GTAIV" stinks of console and has not been given any changes to be more like a PC-game and actually WORK well on a PC.The same goes for "ACII", although it has less issues that were cause by the very same reason.I doubts MGS4-5 or anything else will ever be on PC anyway.At least we have 'Splinter Cell' on PC... Ubisoft will always stay with PC it seems, although they mess it up with games like "ACII" and 'Far Cry 2'.
@DamageIncM @Srg_Ducky Its makes one sad. Be a console guy or PC guy, that is fine. But what gets me poes mad is when a game was on PC ( or xbox,ps3) then the follow-up is made XBOX only ( or ps, PC - almost never happens). Halo, Gears of war. It belongs where its created. ( HA ! CSGO on xbox or ps3. Dont make me laugh)
The next thing that gets my nerve system into a firework or anger is when a game was made for xbox and pc,then you can SEE/FEEL that the game was just a rip from the xbox copy to the pc ( Dont think i have to name an example of this). One last problem is games that get xboxed ( When a game gets a sequel, the games workings are changed to fit on the xbox controller ) dungion siege 3, fable 3, ANY sport game, Skyrim ;( . These games are a heart ache, i love games, any game any platform. XBOX controller DOESNT HAVE AS MENY KEYS AS A KEYBOARD, never mind the mouse.
There is nothing i love more about a game if it has soul. Dungion Siege 3 = great game for xbox, could have changed the name to another title instead of taking a game i thought was going to give D3 a run for its money xboxing the shit out of it and try to sell it to us (PC) as dungion Siege 2 sequele ? are you mad ! Anyway. Thanks all you creators for making the games, they take massive amounts of work, talent and WORK. But please dont let your talent be wasted on something without a soul. MGS can stay on PS3, that is where it was born and that is where it belongs. Just dont take away Unreal Tournament and dont try to take people for a fool, if a games sequel is 99% different than its pre, then ITS A DIFFERENT GAME !
MGS as a franchise, is the BEST what game industry has to offer, MGS4 as stand alone game is a huge dissapointment... Not even close to 10 ( more like 7 or 8...)

@ABEzilla116 by the way...its got nothing to do with the storyline... but do not describe this game as having amazing audiovisuals.....they were great 8 years ago, not today...if this game was ever made for PC and took advantage of directx11, you'll probably would want to jerk off to it as u play it
I'd say the same about Gears Of War 1, 2, 3 .... game is amazing but such shitty as graphics... by the way locked at only 30 frames really kills the game...if you havent seen better than that... then I feel bad for you...
@gianny37 I believe Developers abandoned PCs because of the piracy rate, they should have better return on consoles.
@gianny37 ...and.. you would have to have a top machine to play the games in higher resolutions and framerate. The life span of a PC for gaming is shorter than consoles, unless you upgrade it frequently, which reduces the base of users or market available for the new games.

Look at Call of Duty Black Ops 2... that shit is still using an engine from like 8 years ago...and engine that was first used in Doom 3.... Seriously man.... U can go suck of your piece of PS3 Shit.
1 Like Actually Black Ops 2 isn't using the same exact engine, its a modified version that looks alot better. Also Treyarch said they're making the graphics on the Pc better then consoles.

I'm talking about the character himself, its like they forgot what Max Payne was about. Graphics sure are nice and at the time that it released, Metal Gear Solid 4 was the pinnacle of beautiful visuals.

2 Like Gamespot is far from alone in giving MGS 4 a 10/10 perfect score, so why don't you all complain on all the other sites as well? It got that score with good reason, since its easily one of the best games ever made. Great review. :)
