Game of the Year 2008

OK so with this much hype surrounding the release of a video game, it better be damn good right? But seriously, pre-Killzone 2 (which I have a 2nd hand copy of up on the shelf but haven't cracked open yet) this was THE best looking game out there. I don't even have an HDTV (YET) but I appreciated the graphical quality of this piece. Sure, there are super, super long cut scenes (like all MGS games), sure: it may seem like Hideo Kojima is really just making up the game and the script at the same time with no second draft (he did admit that it was only by some miracle that he managed to get all the loose ends of the plot all bundled togther at the end...(but then perhaps that's why the singleplayer campaign is so DAMN LONG!

OK but here's my complaints. 1) The size that the game takes on your PS3 is mental BIG. I literally couldn't get it all to fit on my old 20 Gig PS3. Had to buy a bigger hard disk, suffer the stress of swapping it out, only for me to get the Yellow Light of Death a couple months later (as a result I WOULDN'T recommend swapping your hard disk out anytime soon - even though it says you can in the manual, etc. etc.) 2) Metal Gear Online has a PITIFUL number of players on there. I literally just waited 10 minutes to play a Team Deathmatch game and we could only get 4 players! FOUR players!?! Then wasted another 5 minutes of my life waiting to get only four players in a Rescue mission. Seriously! They need to make it MUCH easier to sign up for this service (not via the Konami website and all that rigamarole).

In sum: fantasic game, definitely worthy of game of the year 2008. Put the PS3 back in contention in the console war as THE sony exclusive to own, but some serious work needed still for online arena to work.
