A true masterpiece from Hideo Kojima that stands above the rest.

User Rating: 10 | Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Platinum) PS3
Metal Gear Solid 4 from Konami and Hideo Kojima is masterpiece in its own right. Without spoiling too much players who've played the first three games will find satisfaction with MGS4 as it ties up loose ends and helps players figure out how all three previous games connect to each other and in what way. There will be revelations of all shapes and sizes. Combine this with Hideo Kojima's unique form of storytelling and what you get is a producer and story writer that truly knows' how to mess with peoples' minds. At the same time the story brings up a very serious topic and that is the concept of control in today's modern society. While scary to some extent Hideo really makes players think about it. While not all players will understand this concept those who do will no doubt find the concept interesting and possibly scary as it is serious to a large extent.

MGS4's graphics are top notch and really show case's what the Playstation 3 is capable of. Everything looks pleasing. Guns, enemies, locations and even the vehicles look believable and realistic at the same time. While players may find a few low resolution textures here and they're minor and don't really stand out.

MGS4's gameplay is top notch and work perfectly. Snake's Octocamo works perfectly and helps to blend him in with his environment very well. One thing players will have to get used to thought is that the select button no longer activates the codec. Instead the codec is activated through the pause menu. Aside from that guns feel act like guns should. On top of that there is a crap load of guns to choose from in MGS4 that range from automatic pistols right up to heavy duty machine guns. To make things even better Snake has quite a few moves available to him that range from playing dead right up to patting down enemies to get extra items.

MGS4's audio is perfect. Guns sound like the real life counter parts and to make things even better almost all of the original voice actors from previous Metal Gear Solids return and blend perfectly with the new ones.

Overall Metal Gear Solid 4 is a game that players should not pass up on as it's a very memorable game that does everything right.
