In the beginning of the game, when the game asks if this is your first time playing metal gear solid, I like metal gear solid, I like metal gear solid 2, or I like metal gear solid 3. Which of these choices is the most beneficial? What about when one selects very easy for difficulty, does the player miss anything from the game? Or does the same thing happen whether I play the game on hard or very easy, does anything other than the difficulty change? What I am trying to say for example is, like when playing Kingdom Hearts II and selecting beginner, this automatically means you will not be able to see the secret video.

    From infoman's FAQ:

There are four options when you start a NEW GAME.

I'm playing the MGS series for the first time!
    -- Default introductory cutscene.

    I like MGS1!
-- Snake will lose stamina at a slower rate during Virtuous Mission.

    I like MGS2!
-- Special cutscene; name in the upper left hand corner will be different
    until the backpack is retrieved.

    I like MGS3!
-- Unlocks all the cutscenes in Demo Theatre, European Extreme difficulty,
Duel; unlocks face paints and camouflages that were introduced after
    MGS3: Snake Eater was released.

Difficulty will have no negative effect on what you can collect/unlock/etc.

You don't lose anything for playing on Very Easy, and in fact you start with the EZ gun to make the game well, easier. For the first time player, I actually suggest starting with 'I like MGS3!', as you start with some extra and very useful camouflage that makes the game significantly easier. But if you're playing on Very Easy, it shouldn't be that much of a problem.

And I highly suggest NOT choosing "I like MGS3" if you're a first time player of the game. Choose "I like MGS1" instead.

The "I like MGS3" option is for people who already played and finished MGS3 Snake Eater. The save files from that game don't carry over to MGS3 Subsistence so that's why they they included that option. It unlocks a whole slew of extras and secrets.

My advice for first timers: Start the game either on normal or on hard mode and choose the "I like MGS1" option at the start of the game.
