Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater User Review
Disappointing compared to MGS2, but a game worthy of the Metal Gear name.

It's a Metal Gear Solid game and like all MGS games... it rocks! This time you don't get to play as Solid Snake, but hey you play as someone who looks pretty much just like him... Big Boss... or should i call him Naked Snake... or John? Or Big Boss? Man, so many names!
Well the game starts off in the 1960's, you are sent to get this rocket scientist called Sokolov who is being held in a forest in Russia. So you go over there sneak in and get the guy... but then The Boss, who was supposed to give you support over the radio tells you she is defecting to the Soviet Union! So she along with Colonel Volgin and the Cobra Unit take Sokolov from you. You get pretty beat up and can't continue your mission. So you end up in an American hospital waiting to get healed up so you can go back and continue your mission. Once you go back you have more objectives to complete. This time you gotta kill Volgin, destroy the Shagohod, get Sokolov... yeah a lot of stuff. But its all actually a plan from the US government to get their hands on the... oh wait i don't wanna spoil anything lol. Anyway.. the game starts out pretty slow but starts picking up later on.
I can say for sure MGS2 looks better than MGS3. The environments in MGS3 are a lot more complex, it's not the same to make a room in a tanker than create a forest. But even with the more complex environments i gotta give it to MGS2. Just compare Snake in MGS2 to Big Boss from MGS3, you will see the character model in MGS2 is better and not just Snake, compare enemy soldiers as well. Also even if the environments in MGS2 are not as complex as a jungle they were pretty big, just look at the big shell... and it looked awesome. The only thing i might be able to give to MGS3 is that characters seem to have better detail, only main characters though.
Not only did MGS2 have better graphics, but also better animation. In MGS3 character animations are a lot worse. It really is disappointing, but i guess they just couldn't do the animations of MGS2 with this new game engine that allowed them to create these complex forest levels with the PS2 hardware.
Gameplay is something that really didn't fit in with me that great in this game. There is a lot more stuff to do than in MGS2, but it just doesn't fell as good. Snake and Raiden in MGS2 moved much better. Some people might find the stamina system annoying... Snake is one hungry guy.
A lot of people complained MGS2 had really long cut scenes and i guess Kojima heard you all because MGS3 has nowhere near as much. Still MGS3 is a very long game, i'll say even longer than MGS2. Even if it is longer i think, i didn't play it as many times as MGS2. MGS3 is one hell of a game that deserves to carry the MGS title, but i just didn't like it as much as MGS2.
