At long, long last the sequel to the best sneak ‘em up in town is here! MGS2: Sons of Liberty delivers all the things you love from MGS and much more! Snake is back but this time he has a very different roll. You start on a tanker and you must investigate a new type of Metal Gear, held deep inside the tanker. Snake is not the main character in this game, however. That title goes to our new boy, Raiden. Raiden comes is your man for the majority of the game and snake is only their as an aid while he strives to complete his mission. You have your familiar interface for weapons and item selections. Your favourite stash of arsenal is back along with a few new ones. The graphics are a real focal point and Konami speared no expense getting it just right. Attention to detail is nothing short of jaw-dropping. In one area, Snake is in the dining lounge of the tanker and there is a magazine stand there. He opens fire on the magazines and paper and stuff goes flying about. Ok, so I was bored, but that is indication of the level of detail you will expect. Not to mention the bottles smashing or watching a block of ice melting. The AI of the enemy has taken leaps and bounds since MGS1 and that was a great achievement in itself. This time you have a bunch of new things to worry about. From the mist of your breath to your shadows could make the difference between life and death. One really neat bit of detail to mention is when the guards see you there you can shoot their radio out of their hand before they have a chance to contact their buddies. Sound is very cinematic. It fits so well with the whole atmosphere of the game that really is a spectacular action flick where you control the star and determine your hero’s ultimate fate. MSG2: Sons of Liberty marks the return of something special and gives us more. It surprises and delights. Just remember not to sneeze too much…
