That's nothing to be proud of. 1 good game lives, the other good game dies like Infamous and Prototype respectively. That is NOTHING to be happy about.

Prototype is the dead one. >_> I like both, as with this, but Prototype deserved just as much of a future as InFamous. You reap what you sow? So making a fresh world with unique characters and dialogue, as well as good gameplay that has decent challenge for vets while allowing casual gamers to enjoy them too, means they "reap" failure? They deserved twice the sales they got. Gamers don't know what quality games are these days. One rare exception is MGR, and even then people use it as an excuse to hate another good game...

i've never played prototype so i cant comment, but DmC tried too hard to be western and it butchered an iconic character, it also strays too far from the DMC roots.

I don't get it. There's supposed to be a fight?

    - bought DmC
    - bought MGR:R
    - buying GOW:A
    - buying NG3:RE

Losers are those who had to wait until Feb to play a good game.

on one hand you have DmC, a series that invented the fast paced sword combat stylized action game with an emphasis on combat that has always featured a white haired hero with a badass attitude... said series has been perverted by a western studio that casualized the experience and sucking away the personality and challenge into something gross, heavy handed and kinda insulting to the fans and loyal customers that made the series into the massive seller it was.

and then there is the spin-off of a beloved stealth series that is made into a fast paced sword fighting game with an emphasis on challenge and stylized combat with a hero with white hair that has a badass attitude, that is made by the crew that created the DMC series... all while giving massive lip service to he original fans of the beloved stealth series and continuing the legacy into new and exciting territory.

of course there was gonna be people alienated and fans arguing.

not only is MGR a worthy entry into the metal gear cannon, it is also a spiritual entry into Devil May Cry... more so than that awful ninja theory game every hoped to be.

TC, just edit your opening post and put in more vital info (like how many copies MGR sold in japan), could save them the trouble of searching for the sales.

Anyway, for those who are curious, this game sold around 340 k copies in japan. DmC sold around 115k copies in its first week of sales in Japan.

Roots should never be something to strive for. Keeping to your roots repeats the same formula until it gets boring. Sonic repeatedly tried new formulas until the "fans" forced SEGA to start repeating speed, fore-going variety and innovations in the process. And it's a repulsive double standard that this game has a free pass when DmC doesn't. Rising made Raiden more "edgy", but unlike Dante doesn't feel as serious or real. The innocence and relatable depression he went through from MGS2 and 4 respectively are gone and not much goes on with his character throughout the story aside Jack the Ripper. Now I don't see either change in character as "butchering", but saying one's okay and the other's not is a depressingly simplistic double standard. Also, nothing is wrong with being Western. The "hardcore" tone they tried to put on was quickly outgrown by the 7th level.
