SO FAR, it seems like going into Free Blade Mode and lining up the default positioned horizontal slice and pressing Square or Triangle is the fastest way for me to get a Zandatsu. Maybe its the opposite for others. I'm not sure if it gets crazier later on and Free Blade Mode is needed more, but I have a hard time justifying its usefulness besides hands, stylish cuts and anything else possible.
Lastly, is it to my benefit to just mash Square and Triangle to get Zandatsu? It looks sloppy but get gets the job done and adds a few hits to the combos, thus helping the combat rank.

... Nope, it's still the same.

It's like my Rattata is in the top percentage of Rattatas.

Blade Mode is basically for whenever you want to heal.
I guess I'm not used to that mentality yet. And by that I mean just cut once or twice and move on. I'm still kind of in "CUT EVERYTHING UNTIL THERE IS NOTHING LEFT AND JUST WAIT FOR THE ELECTROLYTE."

Plus, it's cool and I always do a samurai-like diagonal slash. <_<
You can get both the energything and the left hand in one slash if you're good.
You'll see - Eternal love, that's what this is
This feeling that I just cannot resist... OD

But that's usually not necessary, and a single slash and zandatsu is what you're aiming for.
