Even though I gave this game 8.5, It's certainly not my first online shooter choice.

User Rating: 8.5 | Metal Gear Online PS3
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is probably my favourite offline game of all time. It has every quality that you need in a game ins spades.

Metal Gear: Online, then, should deliver an epic online experience.

Well, put bluntly, it doesn't. First off, the characters that take place in the battles are blue and red. Eh? You spend all that time customizing your character with different camo's and then the game paints them either red or blue. Hmm...

I'll now go through the standard set of videogame variables:

Graphics - As you would expect from a game that runs on the same engine as MGS4, the game is utterly stunning. It really is gorgeous. The textures are great, the scopes and sights and grenade launchers are all brilliantly modelled, and the character animation is silky smooth. The only flaw is the above mentioned blue and red people. Boo for coloured in soldiers!

Gameplay - Obviously the gameplay is really fantastic. As I mentioned above, its run on the same engine as MGS4, so it couldn't really have gone wrong. All of the controls are the same as they are when your with Old Snake, and they are as intuitive as they were in the main game. The guns feel Solid (couldn't resist) and they all are variables, but sniping seems to be an easy way to gazillions of kills.

Audio - Again, being ran on the MGS4 engine has helped dearly here, as full surround sound support truly kicks ass. Guns sound, well, like real guns being fired at you, and the movement is realistic, such as crunching sounds underfoot.

Overall - A good online experience then, and one that i came back to a few times, but overall it cannot match Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for replayability. People who arn't used to shooters will be confused by the vast array of attachments, and options, and camo's but thats part of the Metal Gear appeal. Thats what makes it Metal Gear.

And it's also what makes it an 8.5/10.
