Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake not only destroyed Snake's Revenge, but made Metal Gear obsolete.

User Rating: 9.5 | Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake MSX
Everyone loved Metal Gear on the NES. The west didn't know that it first appeared in the MSX. The sequel, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake was not released in the west, sadly, but the west got a huge slap in the face when Snake's Revenge was released. It had NOTHING to do with the Metal Gear franchise. Then, the true sequel was released with Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, so everyone can enjoy what they really missed. Not only did this game killed Snake's Revenge, it made Metal Gear look weak.

Game-play: The gameplay here has improved on Metal Gear so much. Take the front door? Screw that! Make life easy and crawl through the vents. Need to distract some loser guards in your way? Make some noise and punch something. They'll come, and they'll think they have been in the sun for too long, since you are already gone. Did you get annoyed by your CO in the first one when you get unwanted calls? Ignore em! Annoyed by the fact that you need to equip different keys? You can still keep the same one to enter a different door. This doesn't mean that guards are any dumber, they have a longer vision range, they can turn their heads, and give you a nasty surprise. This game improves on Metal Gear in every way, kicking Metal Gear's ass to the trash bin. The sequel, Metal Gear Solid uses so many gameplay elements from this game.

Graphics: I really shouldn't talk about graphics here. Since it's on the MSX, it is 2D. But this is surprising since this game looks really great on the MSX. Way better than the first one. My only gripe is that it Snake looks like he is holding a machine gun instead of his Beretta M92F. The bullets look like bubbles, but Then again, I'm being a bit too picky.

Sound: Guys, I said it before, and I won't say it again. It's on the MSX2. Of course you won't hear realistic sounds. The guns sound like Star Wars lasers, but that was the best you can do on the MSX. I don't want to hear your "OMG THIS GAME IS SOOOO UNREALISTIC" complaints. Try making a game like this.

Story: Like the first one, the Metal Gear series was known for its great story and drama. This one is no different. In fact, there are a lot of things that are similar in the sequel, Metal Gear Solid. By no means is Metal Gear Solid a bad game, but I feel as if they ripped off some parts. The story is about Solid Snake, called out of retirement (notice any similarities?) and has to stop the terrorists of Zanzibar land. As he makes his way through, he not only confronts Metal Gear, he has to fight an old friend, and the very man he thought he killed (you should know who he is).

Overall: This game, is truly my favorite MSX game. Probably one of the best in the Metal Gear series (with the exception of Metal Gear Solid). If you want 2D action, 2D story, 2D stealth, and 2D awesome sauce, then look no further. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is the game for you.
