Almost utterly broken.

This sandbox game had so much potential it's sickening. I thoroughly enjoyed the first Mercenaries game, heck, to this day some of my favorite memories of sticking C4 to a jeep then charging at an enemy barricade, leaping away to safety and hitting the detonator to blow the bad guys into orbit came from one of the most compelling sandbox games this side of GTA: San Andreas.

So what the hell happened? Bugs! This was by far the buggiest load of garbage I've ever played on the system. It crashed, it unlocked achievements at random, refused to unlock achievements I'd earned, the AI was dodgy, the controls were somewhere between functional and awful, the story was trash, blowing stuff up was pretty uninteresting, which is a shame since that was selling point, and it very rapidly became one of those games I wanted to be over just as I was barely getting started (about the 9 or 10 hour mark). In movies a bad sequel isn't uncommon, in gaming, it's nonsensical and can be the kiss of death. In this case, the company behind the game, Pandemic Studios, is no more, not that I mind, but it's a real shame things ended up this way for a company that actually had some pretty darned good titles in their resume.
