With MMX6, Capcom ruined the great and powerful impact that X5 had on the X series.

User Rating: 5.5 | RockMan X6 (PlayStation the Best) PS
Highs: Excellent music, good voice acting, still controls and plays fine.

Lows: Horrible stage design, one of the worst stories in video game history, bad camera angles, too pointlessly difficult, cheap deaths, annoying enemies, the nightmare system!

Verdict: This game is so bad, Angry Video Game Nerd should review it. One of the worst Mega Man games ever made.

Mega Man X5 was a great game. Sure it wasn't perfect, but it still had a great story, unforgettable characters, excellent stage design, great gameplay, lots of great secrets and more. It was also intended to be the last game in the X series by series creator Keiji Inafune, with the intended final deaths of Zero and Sigma. It would have been a great ending to the series, but instead Capcom said "No way, jose", and gave us this disappointing reboot that is Mega Man X6, released for the PlayStation in 2001, the same year the Nintendo GameCube and Xbox both launched. In X6, you play as X, after the crash of the space colony Eurasia devestated Earth, almost wiping out the human race, as he must stop the evil researcher Gate and his 8 investigators from creating a nation for reploids only, and resurrecting Sigma. With Zero resurrected, X has a lot of cleaning up to do. Playing X6 is similar to X5, as it has the same control layout and what have you, which is still fine. The voice acting is great, as it is in Japanese but with english subtitles. What happened? Did Capcom get lazy or did they just decide not to have crappy english voice actors who only care about their paychecks ruin the dialogue? The best thing about X6 is the soundtrack, as the stage music is excellent. Seems like Capcom spent more work with the music than the actual game. Also, the J-pop songs you usually hear in the Japanese versions of Mega Man and MMX games have not been taken out for the North American release of X6. These sound tracks are: "Moon Light" and "The Answer" by Showtaro Morikubo, both kick-ass rock songs, plus the excellent ending song, "I.D.E.A" by RoST. So what's so bad about X6? Everything else! There is the unnecessary Nightmare System, which makes the game so much more difficult, the stage design is terrible as it feels very rushed, complicated and frustrating. The camera work is a joke, as you have to guess where platforms are most of the time, which leads to lots of cheap deaths. The enemies are so annoying as they respaun infinately. Also, this game has one of the worst stories in video game history. What Capcom did was combine the good and bad endings of X5 to make the setting and plot of X6. Remember when I said that Zero dies in X5? Well, Zero is brought back to life in X6 in one of the dumbest resurrections of a character in gaming history. Zero lost his legs and part of an arm in X5, which would make you think that he'd be finished, but in X6, it is said that Zero "Hid himself while he tried to repair himself." What? That is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen in a video game. You expect me to believe that, Capcom? Wow. Just wow. Mega Man X6 is one of the worst Mega Man games ever made. Finding X6 on Ebay or Amazon should be easy, as copies usually go for only a couple bucks or so, or you can get the Mega Man X Collection for PlayStation 2 and GameCube, which has Mega Man Xs 1-6 on there. But if you are going to play any Mega Man X game, play anything but Mega Man X6, not to mention X7.
