Mega Man X3 is widely considered the best Mega man X game, but I feel it doesn't improve much on X2.

User Rating: 8 | Mega Man X3 PS
Mega Man X2 was a solid game, but there were a few problems with it. The music wasn't that great and the graphics were more of the same. Well guess what Capcom did to help X3 do better? Absolutely nothing! Yay, 5-Stars!

One issue with X2 was probably because it was too easy. While X3 solves this issue, the difficulty is standard for about 3 of the Mavericks but then the difficulty jumps like a schoolgirl who just figured out a tarantula just crawled up her arm. The last half of the game is for people who have played Mega Man X so obsessively that they have gained Clairvoyance when playing Mega Man X games, allowing them to maneuver around the countless spikes and other instant-death traps.

If you're looking for the best version of X3, do NOT buy the PS or Saturn versions. I'm reviewing this from the Mega Man X Collection on PS2, so I got the PS version. The only thing Capcom updated from X3 on the SNES was the soundtrack. The graphics, gameplay, and story are all the same. The sound is poorly orchestrated and turned X3's funk-a-licious tunes into Bassanova crap that wouldn't be anywhere out of place in that TV show, Family Matters. This could have just been my TV, but X3's sound effects seem really muffled and low quality.

The controls for this game are still nice and tight, and are therefore uninteresting to talk about, other than the fact that you now get the Double Air Dash, so now you wrestle with air dash twice as much as you usually would.

Another interesting addition to X3 is the ability to play as Zero. When I first saw this guy, I thought he was 9 different kinds of awesome, and figuring out you could destroy guys as Zero was like waking up and realizing that you're floating in an ocean made entirely of Sierra Mist, which would probably taste like fish pee, because when you die even once as Zero, he NEVER COMES BACK. What a huge tease! This guy has full health, armor, and weapons, but the moment he steps on a thumb tack, he splits open like a grape.
