User Rating: 8.2 | RockMan X SNES
Megaman X was expected to be just an average Megaman game. Same Megaman, same storyline, same ol' Dr. Wily. Fortunately, ol Megaman still has life after Wily, in the name of Megaman X.

This game had a great start, and although slightly rocky, Megaman X proves that Megaman has life in him after all. This series offered some gameplay twists that actually mattered, made the dorky bosses more serious (although Freezeman and Slashman and Cenetaurman are still bad-azz), and best of all, it darkened the mood a bit, giving a fresh experience to an aging formula.

Gameplay: This is the original Megaman formula, which is still fairly solid, with some additions to give Megaman X a truly great experience. You can now jump on and off and stick to walls, allowing you to explore levels a lot easier than in previous titles. This obviously means bigger stages, with more secrets, tougher bosses, and generally funner additions.

Speaking of secrets, now you can have some upgrades to your armor now (!!!) If you find the leg upgrade, you gain the ability to slide, if you gain the armor upgrade, you take less damage, if you get the arm upgrade, you get highly enhanced 4th charge and a great charge your weapon ability, and if you find the helmet ability, you can crush rocks with your skull. These upgrades give a nice enhancement to your fun factor, and lowers the high difficulty factor to kinda easy.

Thanks to enhanced options on a slowly dying formula, Megaman X shoots 9 mavericks out of 10. DAMN YOU VILE, WE WILL MEET AGAIN! Keeping it from perfection: You can't slide immediately.

Graphics: Sprites have always looked good, the only things holding it back was the sparse backgrounds and the slowdown which occasionly occured.

Sound: Average all the way around, but the (duh duh, duh, duh duh duh duh) in the Sigma stages gave an extra point. YAY!

Buy this game if you like platform games, Megaman games, or you want a good challenge. If you moderately like any of those three, get this, and love this. Everyone else should rent it.
