An awesome game that needs to stay around until the end of time.
Mega Man X has an incredible storyline. The game itself is a little difficult, however after years of playing it, you will get used to it. Unlike the previous Mega Man series, you start out with a rather small energy capacity. You can make this bigger by collecting energy tanks, which increase your energy capacity. Also, this game utilizes an upgrade system. You can inherit capsules made by Dr. Light to increase X's performance, unlike the previous series. I would highly recommend getting these capsules. Like the other series, you obtain enemy weapons by defeating the Mavericks. Except these weapons are much more powerful. When you have the arm capsule, you can charge the weapons and make them deadly.
The names of the Mavericks on this series are well think of. Instead of Hardman, Plantman, Yamatoman, there are names that decribe the enemy a little better. Like Storm Eagle, or Gravity Beetle, and Crystal Snail. Names that describe what they are, and what they have.
And more thing, instead of Dr. Wily taking over everything, there is a robot called Sigma, who in retrospect does what Wily does: plans to overthrow Mega Man and destroy him. Except when he is destroyed, his conscience is thrown out of the body, and takes over another body later.
In other words, I would highly recommend getting this game, if you love platformers, and enjoy a good game.
