Good marketing idea, bad game idea.

What happens when you have a little bit of free time in between games of a well known and well liked game series? Why, you make a sports game featuring the characters of that series!

Unfortunately, except in the case of games like Mario Golf, these games are generally very rudimentary sports games that offer nothing new or innovative and exist only so that you can play a sport you enjoy with characters you recognize and not actual players. My biggest question here is: Why Mega Man?

The Mega Man series had about 3 or 4 constant characters in the old days (Mega Man, Dr. Light, Dr. Wily, and Proto Man), and only a couple more in the Mega Man X series (Mega Man X, Dr. Light, Sigma, Zero, and maybe a couple others)...so it really doesn't lend itself well to a game like this. Most of the other characters available to play as were random bosses from a few of the previous NES Mega Man games, making this game have some slight nostalgia factor, but overall just makes the gamer feel insulted that this was supposed to somehow entertain them.

The soccer aspect of the game is boring and really involves kicking the ball around the field in very stilted movement, and then occasionally use the players' "special attack move," which would guarantee a goal unless a defender was able to get in the way before it reached the goalie. Yay.

Really, just writing a review for this game is starting to make me bored...I think I'll go take a nap and hope I don't have weird dreams about Pharaoh Man scoring a goal with his "fire shot."
