The story started in the Mega Man Battle Network series is being expanded on the GameCube.

Capcom has announced its intention to bring Mega Man Network Transmission to North America this June. The game is set in the same universe that provides the backdrop for the Mega Man Battle Network series and actually takes place in between the first two games in the series.

Mega Man Network Transmission takes place a month after the events of the first game, which saw the evil organization known as WWW trying to steal a military satellite. In Network Transmission, a new threat is uncovered: a new virus called Zero Virus, which is chewing up cyberspace at a fast pace.

Like the Battle Network games, Network Transmission uses a chip system for Mega Man's virtual world attacks. Chips will let you equip and use special weapons as well as support or defensive items such as a jump upgrade and a damage-reversing shield. The game will have more than 100 different attacks in all.

The game is a polygonal one, and it will utilize cel shading to give it a cartoonlike art style. Mega Man Network Transmission is out now in Japan, and it's currently scheduled to hit North America in June.
