The first of the great Legends franchise.

Megaman Legends is the first 3D Megaman to be released. I had restrictions initially about the jump to 3D, but once i played the game, i knew this had to be the one of the best the series has ever produced.

The controls for the game are fairly standard. Directional buttons to move, and R1 and L1 to turn. Most people find that the controls are cumbersome, but after some tweaking the controls should sit in pretty well. The Lock-On function would be the downfall of the controls. Although the Lock-on functions as it should, i.e. locking on to the nearest enemy. You can't move in this state, often leaving you open to attacks from behind . But once you get used to this it should not be a problem.

The game graphics are gorgeous for the PS1. Simple yet effective visuals and the huge wide open maps are the first i've ever seen in a fully 3D game.
The characters are modeled beautifully especially Megaman, which animated perfectly, right down to every step he takes. But the graphics department also has a downside to it. In contrast to the colourful and beautifully rendered cities and plains, the dungeons, are extremely bland and uninteresting. The walls of the dungeons are dull and reptitive, often with little to no differences between each rooms of the dungeons.

The sound and music for this game is great. The simple mood suits the game perfectly and the game features voice acting which is not seen on many games at that time. Furthurmore the english voice-acting is done as well as their japanese counterparts, something that is not often seen even on the current-gen games.

However, what really makes the game so fun is it's highly immersive gameplay. Exploring the huge and vast island will take a considerable amount of time and there are tonnes of fun sidequest to partake in. Be it playing gameshows in Uptown or helpin the city folks do their RPG'ish missions, you'll definitely have fun doing them. The battle system is like the normal Megaman series, except that it is held in a 3D world. There are also many special weapons you can build from obtaining parts from dungeons and other places, making the battlesystem even more diverse. Other than the usual enemy Reaverbots found in the dungeons, you'll also have to face off with the Bonnes, a gang of pirates threatening the peace of the island. And for those who have heard of the adorable servbots and don't know where they hail from, they started out from this game. Even if you decide to ignore the sidequest and all, the main game will take up at least 15+ hours of gameplay. Added with the sidequests and weapon gathering, the number hours you can spend playing this game can easily double or triple.

I could write more about this fantastic classic, but i think you should get what i mean. Go, and find this hidden treasure, and find out for yourself why this is easily a instant classic.
