Mega Man 6 is a very worthy end to the Nintendo Entertainment System's great 8-bit legacy.

User Rating: 8 | Rockman 6: Shijou Saidai no Tatakai!! NES
Highs: Good same-old gameplay, good music, less difficult than past Mega Man games, still solid level design, still good weapons, will not disappoint longtime fans.

Lows: Dosen't do much different than the first 5 MM titles, also, it came out as late as 1994. That's the year I was born!!

Verdict: A worthy end to the 8-bit legacy of the NES.

Remember that old saying: "If it's not broke, don't fix it"? Well, if you have played any Mega Man titles, you will know what I mean. It turns out that more of the same seems to work just fine for Mega Man, as the first 5 titles say so. A lot of people may be surprised that there are 6 Mega Man titles for the NES, and the 6th title is what I am reviewing right here. Mega Man 6, released in 1994 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. In MM6, you play as Mega Man, as he has to stop Dr. X, the person who has actually been pulling the strings the whole time over the course of the first 5 games, from taking over the world with Mega Man's arch-nemesis, Dr. Wily. Playing Mega Man 6 is very similar to the other games in the series, as you pick which robot master you want to defeat, and when you have defeated him, you get his weapon, and then move on to the next one until you get to Dr. Wily's stage. The level design is still fine too, as is still has a challenging atmosphere to each stage, and has some hidden items as well, ranging from extra lives to energy tanks and what have you. The music is still fine too, as each stage has a memorable tune that can get stuck in your head. Mega Man 6 is a good game, but there are problems. 6 dosen't do anything else different than the first 5 titles in the series, as it plays the same as its predecessors. Also, the game came out in 1994, a year with some groundbreaking titles from the 16-bit systems, like Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Final Fantasy VI, Mega Man X, the original Need for Speed, Contra: Hard Corps, and Castlevania: Bloodlines just to name a few. Also in 1994, Sony's new PlayStation, and the Sega Saturn both launched in Japan, as both consoles started the 32-bit era. Also, the NES was pretty much dead in this year as the top-loader replaced the classic grey box, and it's classic 8-bit technology was starting to feel pretty stale compared to the 16-bit systems like the SNES and Sega Genesis, and the newer 32-bit consoles like the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. But this dosen't mean you should not get this game. Mega Man 6 is still an NES game worth buying. With the exception of Wario's Woods, Mega Man 6 is probably the last memorable title in the NES library, as it helps the wonderful 8-bit machine go out with a bang. Don't miss out on buying a copy of Mega Man 6.
