Overwhelming screen flashes buzzkill the game

Why they felt the need to add an annoying heavy dose of screen flashes to the gameplay is beyond me? I would not recommend this game due to the screen flashes as they cause severe irritability. Sad as the play control is very, very tight in a cool, old school way. :(
