The Game That Started it All...

User Rating: 9 | Medal of Honor (Platinum) PS
Medal of Honor started the authentic 1st person shooter in WW2 as well as singlehandedly started WW2 shooters on the Playstation, for it's time it was the most wanted and talked about game on the playstation, everyone had to have it, it was truly the talk of the gaming world. It had set the high quality standard shooters that, compared to the current-day Medal of Honors, is superior it authenticity, Musical score, storyline, and number of missions. It was the first game to be directed by famed filmmaker, Steven Spielberg, and had the best music yet seen in a mere video game which up to that point, had mainly beeps and clicks like "Spyro" and "Mario". Medal of Honor set new standards by having a full blown 70 Piece Orchestra with famed composer, Michael Giacchino which made this game really feel like a movie, sound like a movie and look like a movie, like Saving Private Ryan. The story is of Lt. James Patterson and his service in the O.S.S., you had no Allies with you, but a helluva lot of firepower and a lot of specialized training. You were to complete specific tasks, like capturing documents, destroying motorpools, and rescuing downed airmen. By todays standards it seems far outdated, but it was the greatest thing to play on the playstation. It was endorsed by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, the first game to ever be endorsed by that kind of society. The weapons, although terribly low-res are very nicely done and were VERY FUN to operate, especially when WW2 weapons had never been put into a game up until this point. So to be firing an actual Tommy Gun or Bazooka was a tremendous event an an honor to do. I still have my original copy of it i bought back in '99 and it is in mint condition and works perfectly, and seeing as next year, is the 10th Anniversary of the series, it makes me wonder if they will do anything special for it, like make a completely re-done copy of the original, and put it into next-gen hardware, that truly would be nice, But with the developers more interested in making sales and more money, and caring less about the players and there likings, i don't see this ever happening anytime soon. But Medal of Honor is a enduring symbol of what EA was once all about in the days when they did things like this because it was not all about sales and money, but about historic research and trips to Europe for research, and about having fun. This game is a shinning reminder to future generations of gamers of what it meant to play Medal of Honor and it's early sequels in a time when games were games, and men were men.
