Mechwarrior 5 PS5

User Rating: 2 | MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries PS5

Been a fan of the franchise a long Time. Started playing from Mechwarrior 1, all the way to MW5.

But, I must say, MW5 has changed many things, and it doesn't feel like it is done correctly.

First the good things: The game looks good. Nothing wrong with the music.

The Bad: This list is way longer importunately. The game is difficult and there is no way to make it easier, then a strange way: use auto aim. Why does this game have no difficulty setting? It does not work! First few missions is easy, but the difficulty becomes very steep after a few missions. The enemies have powerful medium size mechs of 50 tons or higher. How is someone going to beat that with a light mech? Like killing a giant with a stone. As far as I know it has only be done once in history. Secondly, if you fail the mission , the game continues, you have to pay repair fees. Your pilot can die. This makes the game brutally difficult, to the point of impossible almost. The only way you can continue is, load an older game. And perhaps load a much older game to do things differently. But that is bad game design not? Thirdly, in certain planets or planetary systems, you cannot repair your mech completely, because there is some kind of market of mech parts and ammo going on. I found myself trapped in the game. My medium mech hd no working weapons after a repair. Why? On the whole planet there was no ammo for sale! They only sold heatsinks. Can you believe that? I looked in other Planetary systems and yes, every system have different parts and or ammo from time to time. Traveling cost credits as well. Credits you like to save, and not use to travel for weeks, in search for ammo...... Really bad game design. Fourth: the game characters are totally like strangers. There is no connecting to them. So cold. Fifth: the Mech load out screen is just useless. If I don't have ammo in stock, you should have the option to buy it, magically. But you cannot. And if you go into battle, you will not receive any warning that your mech is completly out of ammo, and no weapon is working because of that. The ingame mechanic says nothing. Ehh.......

I can't understand what is to love about this game. Just leave it in the store and try not to look at it, if you are a old school mechwarrior. Really. Don't buy or play. it is no fun at all. My dreams that started from MW 1 to MW4 mercenaries is completely shattered , by the incompetence of the people making MW5.

Maybe I will use MW5 as a cupholder, at least that gives some Function....

Mech pilot signing off.
