Mechassault is a fun third-person shooter full of heart-pounding action. There is enough variety in mechs, missions, and environments to keep the game interesting for its roughly 10-hour duration. Too much longer and the game would probably have become tedious. The normal difficulty level offers a good blend of challenge and accessibility. On this setting, I found that it took at most 2 to 3 tries to pass most levels, although there were some exceptions. In particular, I found the timed missions posed a bit of a challenge. On the other hand, the two main boss fights were a breeze. The storyline is very thin, and provides just enough background to justify keeping the action moving. The settings and objectives also vary just enough to keep the game interesting and unpredictable. Mechassault's biggest draw is probably the satisfying way it alloys you to destroy just about anything in your path, including vehicles, buildings and even some geographic features. Boom!
