Great story driven action

User Rating: 8.5 | Max Payne 3 PC
This game was awesome. I was turned off at first by the somewhat clunky controls - not as rough as grant theft auto but not as smooth as other 3rd person shooters. It took me a few tries - and in the end, it was really the story that drew me in.
I generally play games, even FPS games, with a gamepad. I found that unacceptable with Max Payne 3. Bullet Time and Shoot Dodge can really only shine with a mouse and keyboard. I don't think I would have had the patience to try and beat the game on hard using my xbox controller, since the game is really all about headshots. I really hate being hunched over my keyboard and mouse, and the fact that I was willing to go through that to play this games shows just how exciting the plot and action is once you get rolling.
The story is very dark, and unlike any other game I've played. Max is far from your typical hero, as he basically blunders through his job as hired security, getting hammered, killing thousands of people, and generally destroying every location that you visit throughout the game. The story isn't really predictable, and it was compelling enough to keep me playing longer than my generally allotted game time. Their are a lot of exciting moment in the games, both action sequences and dramatic and violent cutscenes.
The game isn't particularly long, but the length seems just right. I'll probably play the game again, although replay value isn't the main draw here. Pick it up - you won't regret it.
