One of the best (and among the first) PC games I have EVER played

User Rating: 10 | Master of Magic PC
With unofficial similarities to the CCG, Magic the Gathering this is one of the very first games I have ever played on a PC. Very similar to the Civilization series but far less dry and no where near as historical or realistic. Create a mage-king, choose the race of people you wish to rule, and proceed with conquering the land. You create your mage king by selecting his/her portrait and creating a name then choose which types of magic to specialize in. There are 5 colors to magic each representing a different flavor of effects and philosophy. This is the first of many similarities of the CCG, though there is no OFFICIAL connection. Black represents death, decay, and all things vile, white is teh obvious polar opposite of black representing virtue and purity and all things good. Green, blue, and red each have their own aspects. Each color is represented in teh exact same way as in the CCG. Spells too have been borrowed from CCG, such as "Dark rtual" though their effects have been slightly modified to be relevant to the mechanics of the game. The source of your magical energy is called Mana as in the CCG, though this is a very common term. The source of that energy is colored nodes which you gain control of. No tapping a mountain for red mana here. There is large number of races available as well as a huge selection of spells divided into the 5 colored categories of magic. These factors, as well as the ability to create your own wizard-king and choose what colors he/she favors as well as other special abilties to choose from gives this game HUGE replayablity. Despite it being more than 12 yrs old at the time of this review, this is one of a very few number of games that I can still enjoy beyond the base nostalgia. Get yourself a good dos emu and GET THIS GAME. Other favorite classix from back in my day include Master of Orion, X-Com, Dark Legions, and Star Control II.
